Twin Towers Correctional Facility

How to Send Mail to Someone at Twin Towers Correctional Facility

Twin Towers has no separate inmate mail address. LASD says all men use one P.O. box. Write Inmate Name, Booking Number, PO BOX 86164, Terminal Annex, Los Angeles, CA 90086-0164. Do not use 450 Bauchet Street. Rejected items are returned, so follow the LASD list on stamps, cash, stickers and cards.

How do I address a letter to TTCF?

Use the general LASD address on two lines.

Inmate Name, Booking Number then PO BOX 86164, Terminal Annex, Los Angeles, CA 90086-0164.

LASD says Men's Central, Twin Towers and the Inmate Reception Center have no separate inmate mail address. The booking number is the part families forget. Our inmate search page shows how to get it.

What will the mail room send back?

LASD returns rejected items intact. Its list includes the following.

  • Food, cosmetics, perfume, powders and lipstick
  • Cash, personal, second party, payroll and out of state checks, and blank money orders
  • Stamps, blank envelopes, metal clasps, glued labels, stickers and glitter
  • Paper clips, staples, pens and pencils
  • Musical, plastic or blank greeting cards, and postcards over 6 by 9 inches
  • Jewelry, rosary beads, string bracelets, balloons and ID cards
  • Lottery tickets, prepaid phone cards, tape, audio, CDs and cassettes

Gang symbols and suggestive art are rejected too. The mail room supervisor line is (213) 893-5874.

Can he get books at Twin Towers?

Yes, within rules. Books and periodicals must come directly from a bookstore or publisher. LASD allows up to 3 books and 3 periodicals a week, with no metal or plastic binding and no hard covers. Explicit sexual content, full or partial nudity and how to material on weapons or crime are not allowed.

If a book is returned, you can appeal on the LASD website within 15 days. LASD says it answers within 15 business days.

What size photos can I send?

At least 3 by 5 inches and no larger than 4 by 6 inches. Nudity, sexually suggestive images and gang imagery are rejected. A family photo and a short note are the safest kind of mail.

Why does a letter matter if I cannot visit?

Visits at Twin Towers are limited to four days a week, and new arrivals cannot have any until housed. A letter reaches him in the meantime, and it is cheap. Keep a note of the date you sent it, in case you need to call the mail room. See visiting and sending money for the other ways to help.

If the real question is how to bring him home, call (213) 725-2815. The Twin Towers page has the building details.

What should I write in a letter to someone at TTCF?

Keep it warm, short and practical. Say who you are, that the family is working on getting him help, and that you love him. Leave out the facts of the case, and keep it to family news and support.

Put your return address on the envelope. Put his booking number on the envelope, and repeat it inside the letter, because every man's mail goes to the same P.O. box. If you include a photo, make sure it is between 3 by 5 and 4 by 6 inches.

If you learn a court date, put it in the letter. It helps him keep track, and our missed court date guide explains why it matters so much if he is released on a bond.

Mail is slow compared with a phone call, so send it early and send it often. Short and frequent beats long and rare, and each letter tells him someone is thinking of him.

1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
