How is bail set for someone held at TTCF?
The court publishes a countywide bail schedule, and the jail applies it. The 2026 Felony Bail Schedule is a 30 page PDF with penal code listings starting on page 12 and a bail worksheet on page 11. Amounts are a base bail plus enhancements.
Felony and misdemeanor charges use different schedules, and wobblers fall under the misdemeanor schedule. We could not confirm the current misdemeanor schedule link, so check lacourt.ca.gov.
Where do I find his bail amount?
Call LASD at (213) 473-6100 with his full name and date of birth. We have not confirmed that the online lookup shows bail, so do not count on it. See our inmate search page for the lookup steps.
A figure read from the schedule is a starting point only. The judge can set a different amount at arraignment.
Can he be released with no bail?
Sometimes. Since October 1, 2023, the court's Pre-Arraignment Release Protocol decides whether eligible arrestees are released with no conditions, released with non financial conditions or held until arraignment. People in the cite and release or book and release groups are released on a promise to appear, at $0 bail.
Not eligible are capital offenses, Penal Code 1270.1 offenses and offenses with certain enhancements. People on felony probation, parole or PRCS, or with 3 or more recent failures to appear, go before a magistrate. Our pre-arraignment release guide explains it in plain terms.
Can bail be lowered before the first court date?
In some cases, yes. Under Penal Code 1269c, an attorney, friend or family member can call the court's Pre-Arraignment Support Unit at (213) 633-6350 within two hours of booking. The unit is open 24 hours. A magistrate considers every timely and lawful request.
It is not available for Penal Code 1270.1 offenses, and police can ask to raise bail in the same two hour window. The court also cites In re Humphrey, which says release cannot depend only on ability to pay.
What happens at arraignment?
Arraignment typically happens within 48 hours of arrest, unless a holiday or weekend gets in the way. A judge can keep, raise, lower or remove bail, and the earlier amount does not bind that judge. His attorney or a public defender speaks for him. Our resources directory lists public defender and legal aid contacts.
If money bail stands, a bond costs a premium and not the full bail. Our bail amount guide explains it, and we can help at (213) 725-2815.
What should I ask the jail or the court about bail?
Ask these questions in order. What is his total bail amount and which charges does it cover? Is he eligible for release before arraignment, and has a magistrate already reviewed him? When is his arraignment, and in which court?
Write down the answers with the date and the name of whoever you spoke with. If the amount seems high, call the Pre-Arraignment Support Unit, (213) 633-6350, inside the two hour window if you are still in it. After that, his attorney or a public defender can raise it at arraignment.
A bond covers the full bail with a premium paid to a licensed agent. Our release after bail page explains what follows once bail is posted.
1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
