Who is held at Men's Central
Men's Central Jail houses adult men in LASD custody, including men waiting for court and men serving sentences. It is at 441 Bauchet St., Los Angeles, CA 90012, next to the Inmate Reception Center and across the street from Twin Towers. Women are held at Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood. A person arrested by LAPD who stays in custody after arraignment is remanded to LASD and may end up here.
Booking and release.
New arrivals do not go straight to a housing unit. They are processed at the IRC, then classified, and only then placed. LASD says that can take two weeks to a month, and during that time the person cannot receive calls or visits. This surprises families. If you cannot reach someone, that does not always mean something is wrong. Check the LASD Inmate Information Center or call (213) 473-6100.
Release for a posted bond goes through the IRC release process. We cannot promise a time, and nobody can.
How a bond is posted for someone held here
You can post bail with a bond from a licensed agent, or pay cash through the cashier, which LASD lists at (213) 473-6049 at the IRC. We could not confirm the hours from an official page, so call first. To start a bond, we need the full name, date of birth and booking number. We prepare the bond and the jail completes the release steps. Our office at 900 Avila St. Suite 101 is near the complex. See the guide to bail amounts for how bail is set.
Visiting, the attorney room and mail
LASD lists public visits Thursday through Sunday from 8 AM to 3 PM, by appointment, and visitors must register through LASD's visitor registration. Bring valid government photo ID. The lobby phones are (213) 974-4082 for the main lobby and (213) 974-4927 for the visiting lobby.
The jail also has an attorney room. LASD says certain documents can be passed through the window there, such as notary services, powers of attorney, property release slips and vehicle releases. Bring a valid government ID.
Money and medical notes
Inmate trust accounts can hold money for commissary. LASD says deposits and withdrawals for released people are handled at the IRC or at Century Regional Detention Facility. For health needs, tell the person's attorney and use the steps on the LASD custody FAQ, which explain how to send medication facts after booking. Keep any note to medical facts and include the booking number.
If your loved one is moved
People can be moved between county jails, to Twin Towers or farther away, such as the Pitchess complex in Castaic. A bond can be posted wherever the person is held, so call us before you travel. Our guide to finding someone shows how to track a move.
Getting there and what to expect.
The jail sits on Bauchet Street, east of downtown, close to the 101 and the 5. Parking near the complex is limited on weekdays, because the courthouse and the other jail buildings share the same streets. Give yourself extra time, and have your ID out before you reach the lobby. If your visit is refused, ask politely why. A lockdown, a move or a classification delay are common reasons, and they are not about you.
Remember that the person you want to visit may not be allowed visits yet. LASD's own note says unclassified people cannot have visits or calls until housed. If so, send a note through their attorney, or call the lobby line to ask about their status. Keep a written list of the booking number, the housing location once known, and any court date.
If you are the person who will sign as co-signer, read what that means first. A co-signer is promising to help make sure the person comes to court. Our guide to missed court dates explains what happens if a date is missed, so you can plan around it.
How 1% down works for Men's Central
On 1% down, here is how it works. Bail Today, Pay Later lets you start with 1% of the bail amount down on approved credit, and the rest of the premium goes on a monthly plan. The premium itself is 10% of the bail, which is the filed rate, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or the defendant or co-signer is a veteran. 1% down is the start of a payment plan, not the price. You can use the calculator or start the online application, which takes about 4 minutes and asks for no SSN online.
Our 1% down page has the steps, and the cosigner guide explains what a co-signer agrees to. We hold California Department of Insurance License #1843448 and answer 24 hours at (213) 725-2815.
1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
