3. Check that the status is active and the license type covers bail.

Why it matters

Only licensed bail agents may sell bail bonds in California, and everyone who solicits or negotiates a bond must hold a license. Check any company before you sign. A licensed agent must charge the premium on file with the Department of Insurance and give you a written receipt for the transaction.
