West Los Angeles Station is at 1663 Butler Ave. The list covers Westwood, Brentwood, Bel Air, Century City, Pacific Palisades, Sawtelle, Beverlywood and Cheviot Hills, among others. The 405 and 10 freeways and Wilshire, Santa Monica and Sunset boulevards are main routes. The UCLA campus is in Westwood, and campus police handle some incidents there, so ask which agency made the arrest.

The station address is 1663 Butler Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90025. The front desk phone is (310) 444-0701. The official LAPD list of communities served is Bel Air, Benedict Canyon, Beverly Crest, Beverly Glen, Beverlywood, Brentwood, Century City, Cheviot Hills, Crestview, Glen Ridge, Pacific Palisades, Rancho Park, Roscomare Valley, Rustic Canyon, San Vicente, Sawtelle, West Los Angeles, Westwood, La Cienega Heights, Santa Monica Canyon.

This is a wide area on the west side. West Bureau arrests usually book at the Metropolitan Detention Center downtown, which is a long drive east.

Is bail posted at this station?

Do not go to the station expecting to pay bail at the counter. For arrests in this area, people are usually taken to the Metropolitan Detention Center, which is at 180 N. Los Angeles St. in downtown Los Angeles, and that is where a bond is usually posted. Nothing is guaranteed. LAPD can move people between jails, so a quick call saves a wasted trip. We can help you find out where the person is.

Getting property back

Things taken at arrest are usually logged and held with the person's jail record, then returned at release with ID. If a friend needs to collect something, the jail can tell you what it needs. Items kept as evidence stay with the police and are returned only when the case allows. Ask the front desk. A towed car is a separate process, and the station can tell you which tow yard has it.

How to file a complaint

Start with what you know. Write the date, time, place and who was involved. Then choose a channel. You can ask for a complaint at the station, use LAPD's Professional Standards Bureau, or contact the Office of the Inspector General for the Police Commission at (213) 893-6400 or oig.lacity.org. We cannot give legal advice, but we will listen and point you to our resources directory.

Starting with 1% down

Start with 1% of the bail amount down on approved credit, and pay the rest of the premium monthly. That is our Bail Today, Pay Later plan, which Jane Un started in 2004. The premium is 10% of the bail, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or the defendant or co-signer is a veteran. 1% is only the down payment. See the 1% down page or the online application.

Before you call, take a minute to write down what you know. Get the full name, birth date, where the arrest happened and any phone number you were given. A booking number is the most useful thing, but it is not required. We will start with whatever you have.

You can reach us 24 hours a day at (213) 725-2815. We are a private licensed bail agent, California Department of Insurance License #1843448. We are not part of LAPD or LASD. Our guide on what to do after an arrest is a good next read.

1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
