West Los Angeles Division covers the Palisades

Pacific Palisades is served by the LAPD West Los Angeles Division. The station is at 1663 Butler Avenue, well inland from the coast. Officers patrol Sunset Boulevard, Pacific Coast Highway, Palisades Village and the canyon roads, as well as the beach neighborhoods near Santa Monica Canyon.

Arrests here usually go on to the Metropolitan Detention Center downtown, though LAPD can move people. Call to confirm. See the West Los Angeles station page and the MDC page.

The long way downtown

From the Palisades, the MDC is about twenty-five miles. Take Sunset Boulevard or Pacific Coast Highway to the 10 Freeway, then east to the Civic Center. At 3 in the morning the drive is about forty minutes. In rush hour, it can be much longer, and Sunset has only a few lanes.

Because of the distance, we encourage Palisades families to do everything by phone and online first. You can call, start the application at /apply/, and send documents from home. You may never need to drive to the jail until your person is released.

Where the Palisades touches other agencies

Not every arrest near the Palisades is made by LAPD. The state beach and park areas, the Will Rogers State Historic Park and parts of the coast may be patrolled by state park rangers or the California Highway Patrol. The nearby city of Santa Monica has its own police department. If your person was arrested in one of these areas, the paperwork and the booking place may be different.

If you are not sure, tell us the street or park. We will help you work out who made the arrest. Read how to find someone in jail, and call 213-473-6100 for the county line.

Rebuilding families

Many families in the Palisades are still rebuilding after the January 2025 fire. Some are living in temporary homes, and some are in stress that has nothing to do with the case. If you are in that situation, tell us. We cannot change the rules, but we can listen, keep the process simple and answer your questions without pressure.

Co-signers who are between homes can still qualify with ID and proof of income. Call us and we will tell you what may be accepted.

Cost, in plain numbers

The premium is 10% of the bail on our filed rate. With a private attorney, or a veteran defendant or co-signer, it is 8%. You begin with 1% down on approved credit and pay the balance monthly.

  • On $15,000 bail, the premium is $1,500 and 1% down is $150.
  • On $60,000 bail, the premium is $6,000 and 1% down is $600.

Use the calculator. Read 1% down versus 10% bail and co-signer responsibilities before you sign.

Courts and legal help

Which court hears the case depends on the charge and where the arrest was made. Some Westside cases are heard at Westside courthouses, and others go downtown. The release papers show the court, department and date. Send us a photo if you cannot read them.

We cannot recommend a lawyer, but our resources directory lists public defenders, legal aid and court self help centers. Never miss a court date. Read missed court dates.

Neighbors and the pregnancy program

We also serve Brentwood and Venice. Qualifying pregnant women, eight months or more, non-violent charge, bail of $50,000 or less, with a working co-signer, may get free bail, premium waived, subject to approval. If you do not qualify, ask anyway. We are often able to help. See the program page.

Women in county custody are held at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood.

Start with facts. The full name, the birth date, where the arrest happened and what the charge is. Charge your phone and keep it near. Then call us. We will check the booking, give you the bail amount and explain the choices, one at a time. Do not drive to the jail in the dark unless you must. Most of what you need can be done from home.

After the bond is posted, release takes the time the jail needs, and we never promise a clock time. Plan a ride for your person, and keep a change of clothes ready.

If you are far away, name one person nearby who can help with the pickup. Give them our number and the jail's number, so they can check the plan with you as it changes.

1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
