Westwood Bail Bonds
If a student, a visitor or a neighbor was arrested in Westwood, the first hours are the hardest. Jane Un Bail Bonds is a licensed California bail agent, open 24 hours, and a parent anywhere in the world can reach us at (213) 725-2815.
Westwood is home to UCLA, Westwood Village and the Wilshire Boulevard high rises, and it covers ZIPs 90024 and 90095. It is in a busy part of the Westside, with students, patients, workers and tourists all in the mix.
An arrest here can involve more than one police agency. This page explains how to sort it out.

Campus police or LAPD
UCLA has its own campus police department. If the arrest was on campus, it may have been made by campus officers, and where they book can differ from an LAPD arrest. If it happened in Westwood Village or on the streets around campus, LAPD likely made it.
We cannot tell you which one from here, and we do not pretend to. The booking record on the county locator shows who arrested the person and where they are held. Use app5.lasd.org/iic or call 213-473-6100.
If a student was arrested at a campus event or residence hall, the university may also open its own review. That is separate from the criminal case, and an attorney can explain how the two fit together.
The West Los Angeles station
Westwood is in LAPD's West Los Angeles Area. The station is at 1663 Butler Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90025, with a front desk number of 310-444-0701. The area also covers Brentwood, Bel Air, Century City, Cheviot Hills and Sawtelle.
Our West Los Angeles station page lists more. If your person is a student, ask the desk whether a campus incident number exists, since it can help later.
Do not call the station repeatedly. Desk staff cannot give much detail, and the county locator often has the facts sooner.
The jail downtown
Westside LAPD arrests usually go to the Metropolitan Detention Center, 180 N. Los Angeles St., though LAPD can move people. Our MDC page lists the address, the phone and the visiting hours.
From Westwood, downtown is about 12 miles. By car, take the 405 and the 10 east, or Wilshire Boulevard. At night it is about 25 to 35 minutes, and much longer in traffic. The Metro E Line is an option in the daytime, but a ride share is simpler late at night.
Visits at the jail are limited to one friend or family visitor per day, and attorneys and bail agents may visit at any time. Bring a photo ID. Do not bring gifts or messages for the person.
Parents who live far away
Many families of UCLA students live out of state or abroad. If you are one of them, take a breath. You do not have to fly here to start. You can call us, apply online, and sign electronically.
A co-signer who lives in another state can be approved with proof of income. We cannot tell you the outcome before we review it, but we do not turn people away because of where they live. Tell us what you can and cannot provide.
Read our guide on what to do after an arrest for a short list of first steps.
A friend or roommate in town can serve as the local contact. They can pick up the person, hold keys and help with the first night, while the family arranges the bond from afar.
School, work and the record
Students worry about financial aid, housing and visas. We are not lawyers and cannot advise on any of those. A defense attorney or the campus legal clinic can say what the arrest means for school. Our resources directory lists free legal help.
What we can tell you is that a bond lets the person leave jail while the case goes on, so they can return to class and work, as long as they come to every court date.
The cost, with a small down payment
The premium is 10% of bail, the filed rate, or 8% with a private attorney or a veteran defendant or co-signer. With 1% down on approved credit, the first payment is small and the balance goes on a monthly plan under Bail Today, Pay Later.
On a $10,000 bail, 1% is $100 down against a $1,000 premium. On a $40,000 bail, $400 down against $4,000. Approval is required, and 1% is not the price. Use the online application, about 4 minutes.
Larger bonds can require more paperwork. If you are a parent abroad, tell us the time zone, and we will arrange calls that fit.
Court dates and the Westside
Our records do not name a Westside courthouse for West Los Angeles Area cases. People booked downtown often have first appearances at the Central Arraignment Courthouse, 429 Bauchet St. The release paperwork says the actual court, date and department.
Put the date in a calendar, set two alarms, and tell a friend. If you must travel from out of town, book flexible flights, because dates can change.
If a hearing is set and the person must return from out of state, a lawyer can often tell you whether a lawyer may appear in their place for a misdemeanor. Ask early, because the answer changes how you plan travel.
1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
