West Los Angeles Division, a long way from the jail
Beverlywood is served by the LAPD West Los Angeles Division. The station is at 1663 Butler Avenue, near the 405 and Santa Monica Boulevard. It covers a wide Westside area, with quiet streets, shopping corridors and the busy 10 Freeway.
Arrests here usually go on to the Metropolitan Detention Center downtown, about ten miles east, though LAPD can move people. Call to confirm. See the West Los Angeles station page and the MDC page.
Pico, Robertson and the streets of Beverlywood
Beverlywood is a tidy grid of single family homes tucked between Pico Boulevard, Robertson Boulevard and the 10 Freeway. Calls we get from here often come from parents of adult children, spouses and neighbors, and the arrests are often traffic related, such as drunk driving on Pico after a dinner out, or a bad decision on a Friday night.
Check whether the person was cited and released. If a bond is needed, bail is set by the county schedule. See how much is bail in California. Release without bail is possible for some low-level arrests. Read pre-arraignment release.
From the Westside to downtown
The usual route is the 10 Freeway east to the Civic Center. At 2 in the morning it takes about twenty minutes. At rush hour, it can take more than an hour, and the 10 is among the most crowded freeways in the city. The Metro E Line runs from the Westside to downtown, but late night service is limited, so a rideshare may be easier.
The MDC is on Los Angeles Street. Parking nearby is easiest in a garage. Our office at 900 Avila St is close by, though most Westside families finish by phone and online.
Cost, in plain numbers
The premium is 10% of the bail on our filed rate. With a private attorney, or a veteran defendant or co-signer, it is 8%. You begin with 1% down on approved credit and pay the balance monthly.
- On $10,000 bail, the premium is $1,000 and 1% down is $100.
- On $50,000 bail, the premium is $5,000 and 1% down is $500.
- On $100,000 bail, the premium is $10,000 and 1% down is $1,000.
Larger bails need more careful approval and sometimes collateral. We tell you before you sign. The calculator shows your case, and is bail money returned explains what you get back.
Hiring a lawyer, and what we can and cannot say
Many Westside families hire a private attorney quickly. If an attorney is retained, the premium drops to 8% on our filed rate, so tell us. We cannot recommend a lawyer, and we cannot give legal advice. Our resources directory lists public defenders, legal aid and court self help centers if you need free help.
A co-signer needs ID and proof of income. Read co-signer responsibilities. You can start online at /apply/. It takes about four minutes with no Social Security number typed online.
Which court hears the case
The court depends on the charge and where the case is filed. Many Westside cases are heard at the courthouses on the Westside, and some go downtown. The release papers show the court, department and date. If you are unsure, send us a photo and we will help you read them.
Never miss a date. Read missed court dates. If the person is held longer, use the inmate locator or call 213-473-6100.
Neighbors and the pregnancy program
We also serve Pico-Robertson and Palms. Qualifying pregnant women, eight months or more, non-violent charge, bail of $50,000 or less, with a working co-signer, may get free bail, premium waived, subject to approval. If you do not qualify, ask anyway. We are often able to help. See the program page.
Women in county custody are held at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood. Call us and we will help you find the right place.
It is natural to feel shame and fear when an arrest touches a quiet street. Try to put those feelings aside for tonight. A calm call gets results. Have the name, the birth date and the place of arrest. If you do not have them, we will help you find them.
After a bond, the person goes home to wait for the case. That is the point. They sleep in their own bed, go to work and prepare with a lawyer. Our job is to make that possible, and to remind your family of every date.
1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
