Who is likely to respond
Our records place Vermont-Slauson in the LAPD 77th Street Area, station at 7600 South Broadway, front desk 323-786-5077. A few blocks near its edges may fall under other divisions, so confirm when you can. Read our 77th Street station page for more.
Vermont-Slauson also sits near two busy areas, Florence to the south and the Exposition Park and University neighborhoods to the north. An arrest right on the border can fall under a different Area. We do not guess about borders, and neither should you.
If you cannot tell who responded, the inmate line at 213-473-6100 can say where the person was booked. You can also search app.lasd.org/iic.
The jail, and a reason to call first
Arrests here are usually booked at the 77th Street Regional Jail, the same address as the station. Reports say the jail has lacked medical staff for a period, so people who need medical clearance may go to the Metropolitan Detention Center downtown or the Valley Jail in Van Nuys.
That is a long way from Vermont and Slauson, so a short call saves hours. The 77th Street Regional Jail page has the address, phone and visiting rules.
Vermont Avenue and the bus routes
Vermont is one of the busiest bus corridors in the city, and many riders here depend on it. The route north leads toward downtown and the Metropolitan Detention Center. The route south leads toward the 105 and the Harbor Freeway. Slauson Avenue runs east and west and connects to the 110.
If you have to take a bus at night, check the schedule and plan a backup. A rideshare may be safer at 2 AM. Bail can be posted at all hours, so you do not need to rush in the dark.
Paying a little now, the rest later
Premium is the bond fee. It is 10% of bail at the filed rate, or 8% if a private attorney is retained or the defendant or co-signer is a veteran. Bail Today, Pay Later lets you start with 1% down on approved credit and pay the balance monthly.
On a $12,000 bail, the premium is $1,200 and the 1% down payment is $120. On a $40,000 bail, it is $4,000 and $400. Approval is required. We show you the full cost before you sign. The bail cost guide explains the range.
Work, auto shops and the daily grind
A traffic stop at Vermont and Slauson can turn into an arrest if there is an old warrant, a suspended license or a problem with paperwork in the car. Families are sometimes surprised to learn about an old case. Ask the person, if you can, whether any older matters are still open, and tell us honestly.
Many people here work in small shops, garages and services. Pay may be in cash or from several small jobs. If you are a co-signer, bring what you have. Pay stubs help, and so do bank records or a letter from an employer. We will tell you what is enough.
Remember that the co-signer promises the defendant will come to every court date. If the person misses one, the co-signer could owe the full bail amount. Please read the co-signer guide before you sign.
Court dates and legal help
South Los Angeles cases may be heard at different courthouses depending on the charge. A downtown booking goes first to the Central Arraignment Courthouse on Bauchet Street. The release paperwork lists the date, the courtroom and the case number.
Keep a small notebook during this time. Write down who you talked to, when and what they said. Names, times and phone numbers matter, and they are easy to forget when you have not slept. A notebook also helps the next person who takes over when you need rest.
If you need a lawyer and cannot pay, ask the court about a public defender. Our resources directory lists free and low cost help. We do not give legal advice.
1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
