Two LAPD areas touch Sun Valley
Our records place Sun Valley in LAPD's Foothill Area, but the neighborhood is also listed under North Hollywood Area, so the arrest could have come from either. The Foothill station is at 12760 Osborne Street, Pacoima, CA 91331, with a front desk number of 818-756-8861.
The North Hollywood station is at 11640 Burbank Blvd., North Hollywood, CA 91601, and the desk number is 818-754-8300. See our Foothill station page and North Hollywood station page. The booking record will tell you which one it was.
If the person was stopped near the airport side or the rail corridor, the arrest may involve a city agency from another town, such as Burbank. Those cases can end up in a different jail first, so check the locator and tell us what it shows.
From the station to the Valley Jail
Arrests in the east Valley usually go to the Valley Jail Section at 6240 Sylmar Ave., Van Nuys. That is a straight run from Sun Valley by Sherman Way, Vanowen Street or the 170 and 101, about 15 to 25 minutes at night. LAPD can move people, so confirm with the locator.
Our Valley Jail page has the phone, 818-374-9645, and the visiting hours. If someone must go downtown for medical clearance, the Metropolitan Detention Center is on Los Angeles Street.
If you have no car, a ride share to Sylmar Avenue is often easier than a bus at night. Plan to bring photo ID and nothing else.
Work, shifts and proof of income
Many families in Sun Valley work in warehouses, construction, trucking and nearby industrial jobs, and many have more than one income. Approval depends on the co-signer's ability to pay, so a recent pay stub or an employer phone number helps.
If pay is in cash or varies week to week, tell us. We will explain what other proof helps, such as bank statements or a letter from an employer.
A veteran defendant or co-signer, or a private attorney, can bring the premium down from 10% to 8%.
Some families worry that a job in a warehouse or a cash job will block approval. It does not. We care about whether the plan is realistic and whether someone can be responsible for it.
Spanish speaking help
Ask for a Spanish speaking agent when you call, and we will try to connect you. We do not promise a specific staff language, but you will always get a clear explanation, and you can bring a family member on the line to help translate.
If your relative is in jail and speaks mostly Spanish, remind them that they can ask for help from jail staff too.
It also helps to write down the name of the person's first appearance court, the booking number, and the charge in plain words, so anyone who calls for you can say it clearly.
What the cost looks like
The filed premium is 10% of bail. With 1% down on approved credit, the first payment is small and the rest is a monthly plan through Bail Today, Pay Later.
On a $25,000 bail, that is $250 down, with a $2,500 premium at 10%. On a $10,000 bail, $100 down with a $1,000 premium. Approval is required, and 1% is never the price. The calculator takes any figure, and the online application takes about 4 minutes.
If the person works nights or has two jobs, tell us that too. We can set payment dates around paydays, so a monthly plan is something you can keep.
The court and the first date
Valley cases are commonly heard at the Van Nuys Courthouse East at 6230 Sylmar Ave., right next to the jail. The paperwork you get at release names the actual date and department. If you cannot find it, call us and we will help you look it up.
Read our guide on what to do after an arrest for a plain list of the first steps.
Court dates here are not flexible. A missed date can lead to a warrant, so put reminders in two phones. If the person has no phone, write the date on something they will see, like the front door.
Nearby areas we also cover
Sun Valley borders Pacoima, Arleta, Panorama City and Van Nuys. If the arrest was in Van Nuys or Pacoima, the same jail often applies, and the same steps work.
Some Sun Valley families have a relative who works near the airport or the rail yards and cannot take time off. We can often handle the bond by phone while that person stays at work.
1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
