The North Hollywood station covers Studio City
Studio City is in the LAPD North Hollywood Area. The station is on Burbank Boulevard in North Hollywood, east of Studio City. Our North Hollywood station page shows the address and phone.
The station may hold someone briefly. People arrested in the Valley are usually moved to the Valley Jail Section in Van Nuys, but it is not published, so call 213-473-6100 and ask. LAPD can also move people when medical staff are needed.
Ventura, Laurel Canyon and the 101
Studio City sits along Ventura Boulevard, with Laurel Canyon Boulevard climbing to the hills and the 101 Freeway running just north. Most arrests here start on those streets, near the studios on the east side or in the hillside lanes.
To reach the Valley Jail, drive west on the 101 and south on Van Nuys Boulevard, or take Ventura Boulevard west if you do not want the freeway. Allow 25 to 40 minutes at night, and longer during commute hours. The Metro B Line has a stop at Universal City and North Hollywood if you prefer a train, and buses can complete the rest.
An arrest near a studio lot or on Ventura Boulevard
CBS Studio Center is the landmark many people mention, and the surrounding blocks fill up with crews, visitors and traffic. Events and long shoots mean more cars and later nights, and that can lead to late stops and disputes. If the arrest was on private property such as a studio lot, tell us. Some matters are handled by private security first.
The booking steps are the same. Fingerprints, a photo, the charge and the bail amount. For more on bail ranges, read how much bail is in California.
Your work may be on the line. We understand. Ask a trusted friend to call your boss or your agent, so you can focus on getting your loved one home.
Hillside homes, shared streets and neighbors
North of Ventura Boulevard the streets climb toward Mulholland and the canyons. South of it, the blocks are flat, full of apartments and small shops. Families here are a mix of long time residents, working actors and crew, young professionals and renters. An arrest touches all of them in different ways, but the first calls are the same.
Some people worry about a record following them. A bond does not erase an arrest, and it does not decide the case. It only lets the person wait at home while the case moves forward. A lawyer can explain what comes next, and many things, such as sealing a record, are possible later.
Do not post about it online. Anything written about the arrest, even by friends, can be read later by a prosecutor. Let the lawyer decide what is said and where.
If you are the one who is cosigning, take a moment to talk it through with your family. A bond is a promise, and we want you to feel comfortable keeping it. You can read what the promise means in our cosigner guide.
How the premium works, in plain terms
Premium is 10% of bail, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or the defendant or co-signer is a veteran. We never call 1% the price. With approved credit, 1% down begins the bond and the balance is paid monthly. Our Bail Today, Pay Later plan is the way we do it.
With a private attorney already hired, which is common here, the rate drops to 8%. On a $50,000 bail that means a premium of $4,000 instead of $5,000. Ask us at the first call.
The online application takes about 4 minutes.
Court in Van Nuys
Valley cases are generally heard at Van Nuys Courthouse East on Sylmar Avenue. Your attorney may be able to appear for you at some hearings. Ask them, and keep every date in your phone calendar.
Missing court can cause serious trouble for the bond. Read about missed court dates so you know what to avoid.
Pregnancy and special cases
Qualifying pregnant women, 8 months or more along, with bail of $50,000 or less on a non-violent charge and a working co-signer with proof of income, may be eligible for free bail with the premium waived, subject to approval. If she does not qualify, ask anyway. Our pregnancy bail page explains the program.
1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
