Bail Bonds on Mount Washington, Northeast Los Angeles

People on Mount Washington love how quiet the hill is. That makes a late night arrest feel even worse. If someone you care about was taken from the hill, call Jane Un Bail Bonds at (213) 725-2815. We are a licensed California agent, CDI License #1843448, answering 24 hours a day.

Mount Washington rises above Highland Park and Glassell Park in the San Rafael Hills. Winding streets, steep driveways, views of downtown and the Arroyo, and the hillside grounds of the Self-Realization Fellowship give the neighborhood a calm feel. The old Southwest Museum sits at its foot.

Here is how to move from panic to a plan.

Which station and which jail

The hill is in the LAPD Northeast Area. The station is on San Fernando Road, and the front desk answers at 323-561-3211. Our Northeast station page lists the address.

Most Northeast arrestees usually go on to the Metropolitan Detention Center downtown, but LAPD can transfer people when needed. A short call to the inmate line at 213-473-6100 will confirm. The MDC page covers the address and visiting hours.

Why the hill can slow things down

Mount Washington has a quiet, artistic, close knit feel. Neighbors know each other, and rumors fly fast. A family dealing with an arrest sometimes hears the news from a neighbor before anyone calls them. Try to get the facts from the station or the inmate line, not from the street. Details passed along second hand are often wrong, and wrong details cause wrong decisions.

Steep, narrow streets limit where cars can park and how quickly officers can respond. A DUI stop on a curve, a noise complaint at a hillside house or a dispute between neighbors are the usual starting points. Families sometimes cannot even tell which street the arrest happened on.

Ask the person's friends or neighbors for the cross street. That detail helps the station and helps us. If you saw the arrest, write down what you remember while it is fresh.

Getting down to the jail

From Mount Washington, take Figueroa Street or Avenue 43 down to the Arroyo Seco Parkway, the 110 south, and then reach downtown. The A Line train stops at the Southwest Museum station near the foot of the hill and runs to downtown, so riders without a car have an option. At night the train and the roads are quiet.

Parking near the jail is limited, and rideshare is often easier. If you are exhausted, please do not drive. We can handle the early paperwork by phone while you rest, using our online application.

What 1% down means for you

Premium is the fee for the bond. It is 10% of bail at the filed rate, or 8% if a private attorney is hired or the defendant or co-signer is a veteran. Through Bail Today, Pay Later, you start with 1% down on approved credit, and the balance is paid monthly.

Say bail is $20,000. The premium is $2,000 and the 1% down payment is $200. Approval is required, and a co-signer is usually part of it. You can see how the pieces fit in our guide to 1% down versus paying 10% at once.

Court and after

The first stop is usually the Central Arraignment Courthouse on Bauchet Street. Felony cases then go to the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center on Temple Street. Make a copy of every paper you receive.

The neighborhood also sits close to Highland Park, Glassell Park and Eagle Rock, so the arrest may have started on a busier street at the bottom of the hill, where bars and restaurants stay open late. If the arrest was down the hill, the same station and the same process apply.

Hillside homes can be hard to reach for mail or visits. Give us a phone number that gets answered, and a second one for a relative. Missed calls from the court or the bail agent create trouble.

If a family has no one to sign

Visiting rules at the booking jail are strict. LAPD allows one friend or family visit per day, and a bail agent can visit anytime. Check the hours before you leave the house. Bring a government ID and leave bags, phones and keys in the car if you can.

Some families on the hill are older adults or one person households. If you do not have an obvious co-signer, call anyway. Sometimes a longtime friend, a coworker or an adult child in another city can sign remotely. We will explain the options honestly, including when we cannot help.

Free legal and court help is listed in our resources directory.

1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
