South L.A., Los Angeles
Historic South-Central Bail Bonds, Close to Downtown
Historic South-Central is just south of downtown, and the jail where arrests usually go is only a few minutes away. We are even closer. Our office at 900 Avila St sits on the same side of the city.
Call (213) 725-2815 and Jane Un Bail Bonds will answer, no matter the hour. We will explain what happens after an arrest on Central Avenue, how the downtown jail and courts work and how 1% down on approved credit can fit the bail. You do not have to be the person arrested to call. A relative, friend or attorney can.

LAPD Newton Division on Central Avenue
The neighborhood is in LAPD Newton Division. The station is at 3400 S. Central Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90011, phone 323-846-6547. Our Newton station page has the details.
Newton also covers Vernon Central and the Central Avenue corridor, and it borders downtown, Exposition Park and Vermont Square. ZIP codes in the neighborhood include 90011, 90007 and 90037. A person arrested near the old Central Avenue Jazz District or the Dunbar Hotel area is likely to be handled here first.
The streets here are a mix of older homes, warehouses, small factories and apartment blocks. Because the neighborhood touches downtown, a stop on one side of an avenue can fall under a different division than the other. If the Newton desk does not have your person, they can often tell you where to ask next.
The booking jail downtown
After the station, adults are usually booked at the Metropolitan Detention Center, 180 N. Los Angeles St. LAPD can move people between jails, so call 213-473-6100 before you go. You can also search the LASD Inmate Information Center at app5.lasd.org/iic.
From Central Avenue, it is a short drive north on Alameda or Central into downtown. The Metro A Line runs along Long Beach Avenue near the east edge of the area and goes toward downtown. Parking near the jail is paid, so plan on a lot.
When you arrive, tell the desk you want to post a bond, or let our agent meet you. Bring a photo ID and the person's full name and birth date. The jail takes bail all hours, and our office is close enough that an agent can often reach the jail area quickly. Release timing belongs to the jail, so we cannot promise a time.
A neighborhood with deep history
Central Avenue was once the heart of Black Los Angeles and its jazz scene, and the Dunbar Hotel is a landmark from that time. Today the area is also home to many Latino families, factory and garment workers, and small shops along Central, Vernon and Slauson. People who live here often have long family ties to the block.
We keep that in mind when we talk with a family. You will not be rushed or judged.
The neighborhood also has a long tradition of churches and community groups. If the family has a pastor or a community leader they trust, that person can often sit with the family at court. Support helps. We are also here at any hour if you need to talk through the next step.
Common reasons for a call
Calls to us often involve traffic stops, vehicle theft, weapon and drug charges and domestic disputes. The bail depends on the charge, not the block. Read how much bail costs in California to learn how amounts work.
If you do not know the charge, ask the booking desk or give us the full name and date of birth, and we will help you look up the booking.
If a vehicle was involved, ask where it was towed. Towing and storage fees add up each day and are separate from bail. If the person owns a business or has a job that depends on the car, deal with the tow yard early.
Many people here are working with a public defender. Ask the court for the name of the lawyer on the first date, and write down the case number.
Court and your first date
Cases from here are likely to start downtown, at the Central Arraignment Courthouse, 429 Bauchet St., and continue at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center, 210 W. Temple St. Your paperwork lists the date and room.
Plan to arrive early and bring photo ID. A missed date can forfeit the bond. See the missed court date guide and call us right away if it happens.
Many families on this side of town have a parent, an aunt or a grandmother who steps up as co-signer. That works if the person can show income and understands the promise. Read what a co-signer agrees to before anyone signs.
Cost and 1% down
Premium is figured at 10% of the bail, the filed rate. A veteran defendant or co-signer, or a retained private attorney, makes it 8%. With Bail Today, Pay Later, approved credit means 1% down now and the balance in monthly payments.
On a $25,000 bail, the 10% premium is $2,500, and the down payment is $250 on approved credit. Try the calculator or begin at the application. It runs about 4 minutes and needs no SSN online.
Nearby Downtown and Exposition Park share the same jail.
1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
