The Southwest station

Adams-Normandie is in LAPD's Southwest Area. The station is at 1546 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90062. LAPD does not list a front desk number for this station on the page we checked, so we do not print one. Use the county locator or the jail line instead.

Our Southwest station page has more. The same station also serves Jefferson Park, Exposition Park, Leimert Park and University Park.

A change that affects South L.A. families

The usual jail for South Bureau arrests is the 77th Street Regional Jail, 7600 S. Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90003. Its phone is 323-786-5541. But in October 2026, NBC Los Angeles reported that this jail has no medical staff until January 4, 2027. Because of that, some arrestees who need medical clearance are taken to the Metropolitan Detention Center downtown or to Van Nuys.

That means your person may not be where you expect. Check the county locator at app5.lasd.org/iic or call 213-473-6100 before you drive anywhere. Our pages for the 77th Street jail and MDC give the addresses and visiting rules.

A short note about timing. Because the jail cannot always do medical screening, booking for some people takes longer than it used to. That is not a sign that something is wrong with your case. It is a staffing issue, and it will ease after the medical staff arrives.

Moving around from Adams-Normandie

The 110 and the 10 meet just to the east, so downtown is a few minutes away by car at night. The 77th Street jail is farther south, about a 15 to 25 minute drive by Broadway or Figueroa. Check traffic, since the Harbor Freeway slows down in the afternoon.

If you do not have a car, the Metro E and A lines and several bus lines run near here. A ride share is simpler at night, and we can help with most steps by phone.

If you are visiting, the jail asks for a valid photo ID, and visitors may be turned away for clothing that does not follow the rules. Call the jail first to check the hours, and keep your visit short and calm. The person inside is probably scared too.

Court after booking

Our records do not name a single courthouse for Southwest Area cases. Where the case is heard depends on the charge and where the person was booked. The paperwork you get at release gives the court, the department and the time.

If you do not have it, search for the case through the court's website or call us, and we will help you find it. Do not guess. Showing up at the wrong courthouse can look like a missed date. Our guide on missed court dates explains why it matters.

The cost and the plan

Premium is 10% of bail, the filed rate. It is 8% when a private attorney is retained or the defendant or co-signer is a veteran. We offer 1% down on approved credit with the rest paid monthly through Bail Today, Pay Later.

On a $20,000 bail, that is $200 down against a $2,000 premium at 10%. On a $7,500 bail, $75 down and a $750 premium. Approval is required, and 1% is never the price.

Run your numbers in the calculator or use the online application, about 4 minutes.

Some families wonder if they can pay it all at once instead of using a plan. You can, and our guide on 1% down versus 10% bail explains the choice. The plan is there to make the first payment smaller, not to hold you in a longer deal than you need.

What a co-signer does here

A co-signer promises that the person will appear in court and that the premium will be paid. A parent, a partner, an aunt or a close friend can do it, as long as they are an adult with proof of income. If you are asked, think carefully, and read the paperwork.

Our guide on co-signer responsibilities explains what is on the line. We would rather you know the facts now than be surprised later.

If you are the person reading this for a loved one, remember that it is okay to ask questions. We want you to be sure before you sign, and we will go through the paperwork line by line.

When the person needs medical care

If your family member has a health condition, tell the jail staff and tell us. Medical needs are part of why South L.A. arrestees are being sent to other jails right now, and they matter for how soon a person can be seen by a doctor.

Medications cannot usually be handed over at the jail. Staff handle them, so give them the name and the dosage if you can, and ask the attorney or the jail medical office what to do.

1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.

Questions people ask

Which jail is my person in?

Check the locator. The 77th Street jail is the usual one, but medical clearance can send people downtown or to Van Nuys.

Why is the station phone missing?

LAPD does not list a front desk number for Southwest on the page we checked. We do not guess.

Is Adams-Normandie close to USC?

Yes. It is just west of the university area and the Harbor Freeway.

Can I get a bond if I do not know the bail?

Yes. Give us the name and the jail. We can look at the booking details and help from there.

Will my person be released the same day?

We cannot promise a release time. The jail sets that, and we can only start the process.
