We will ask a few simple questions, tell you what happens next, and give you a straight answer on what it costs. You can also read through this page first and call when you are ready.

Who makes arrests in Harvard Heights
Our records place Harvard Heights in the Olympic Area, with a medium level of confidence. The Olympic station is at 1130 S. Vermont Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90006. LAPD does not list a front desk number for it on the page we checked, so we do not print one here.
Because the neighborhood sits where several LAPD areas meet, treat the station as a starting point and not a final answer. The booking record tells you exactly who arrested the person. Our Olympic station page has what we know.
Finding your person tonight
Open app5.lasd.org/iic on a phone and search by name. Or call 213-473-6100, which LAPD lists as the information line for city and county jails. Have a spelling ready for the first, middle and last name.
The person will usually be booked at the Metropolitan Detention Center downtown, although LAPD can send people elsewhere for medical clearance. Our guide on finding someone in jail walks through each step if the first search comes back empty.
Bring or save a photo of the person's ID if you can. It helps when the name is spelled in different ways.
Speaking your language
Harvard Heights borders Koreatown, and many families here speak Korean, Spanish or both at home. Ask for a Spanish speaking agent or a Korean speaking agent when you call, and we will do what we can to match you. We never promise a specific staff language, but you will not be turned away because English is hard.
If you are translating for an older parent, take your time. We will go slowly and repeat anything you need, and we will not rush you off the line.
What to expect at court
For arrests booked downtown, first appearances are often at the Central Arraignment Courthouse, 429 Bauchet St., and later hearings at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center, 210 W. Temple St. The court paperwork you get at release gives the true date and department.
Make two copies of every paper. Put one in the person's wallet and one on the refrigerator. If a date is missed, call us before anything else. Our guide on missed court dates explains your options, and calling early gives you more of them.
How the money works on a smaller bond
Premium is 10% of bail, or 8% with a private attorney or a veteran defendant or co-signer, as filed with the California Department of Insurance. We start the plan with 1% down on approved credit and the balance paid monthly.
On a $5,000 bail that is $50 down on a $500 premium. On a $75,000 bail, $750 down on a $7,500 premium at 10%. The calculator does this math for any amount. If you want to compare the two ways of paying, see our guide on 1% down versus paying the full 10%.
When you are ready, the online application takes about 4 minutes.
When a pregnant woman is in custody
Qualifying pregnant women, 8 months or more along, may have their premium waived under our community program. Non-violent charge, bail $50,000 or less, and a working co-signer with proof of income are required, and everything is subject to approval. Ask anyway if you are unsure.
County women are often held in Lynwood at the Century Regional Detention Facility. Read the full details on our pregnancy program page.
What families in the neighborhood tend to ask first
Most calls we hear from this part of Los Angeles start with the same worry. How long will this take, and can we afford it? We cannot promise a release time, because the jail sets that, but we can tell you right away what the first payment is and what the monthly plan would look like.
The next question is usually about work. A person who has a job and a recent pay stub is in a stronger spot for approval, and so is a co-signer who works. If the person was arrested at work or lost the job because of the arrest, tell us. It does not end the conversation.
Many families also ask about immigration. We are not lawyers and cannot give legal advice on that, but you can ask to speak with an attorney or a legal aid group first. Our resources directory lists places to start.
Then comes the question about school and kids. If a parent is in custody, make a plan for who picks up the children today, and call the school in the morning. Small steps like this help while the bond gets arranged.
1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
Questions people ask
Which LAPD station covers Harvard Heights?
Our records say Olympic, though the area borders others. The booking record is the surest answer.
Do I have to come to your office?
No. Most of what we do happens by phone and online. Our LA office is at 900 Avila St Suite 101 if you prefer to talk in person.
What does the co-signer need to bring?
Photo ID and proof of income such as a recent pay stub. A working co-signer helps approval go smoothly.
Is there a fee on top of the premium?
The premium is set by the filed rate. Any actual, necessary expenses allowed by California rules would be explained to you before you sign.
Will you tell me what I owe before I commit?
Yes. We give you the numbers up front, including the full premium, so you know the whole picture.
