Sunland Bail Bonds in the Foothills

Sunland sits against the Verdugo Mountains, and for most families here the freeway ride to a jail feels very long. We can help you plan the trip and handle the bond so you do not have to do it all alone.

I am Jane Un, a licensed California bail agent. We are open 24 hours, and the first call is free. Neighbors, parents, spouses and attorneys can all call for the person in custody.

Foothill Area, with a station in Pacoima

Sunland is covered by the LAPD Foothill Area. The station is on Osborne Street in Pacoima, west of Sunland along the base of the mountains. See the Foothill station page for the address and phone number.

After booking, Valley Bureau arrests are usually held at the Valley Jail Section in Van Nuys. LAPD does not publish an area to jail list, so we say usually. Call 213-473-6100 to confirm. Details about the Valley Jail are on our site.

The long road out of the foothills

From Sunland, the usual route is Foothill Boulevard or the 210 Freeway west, then the 5 or the 170 south toward Van Nuys. Plan on 35 to 55 minutes, and more in rush hour. In winter storms, the 210 can be slow. On hot, windy fire days, smoke and closures can change the plan.

Check the road before you go. If you do not drive, buses along Foothill Boulevard connect to other lines, and a rideshare may be the easiest choice at night.

Because the trip is long, a lot of what we do for Sunland families is work from a distance. We can talk to the jail for you, file the bond and keep you updated by phone.

Sunland Park, the mountains and daily life

Sunland Park, the Foothill Boulevard shops and the trails into the Verdugo Mountains give the neighborhood a small town feel. Sunland and Tujunga are often named together, and some families have relatives in both. Our Lake View Terrace page covers the Foothill Area next door.

Not every arrest in the hills is by LAPD. The California Highway Patrol covers freeways, and county and forest officers cover some trails and roads. If you do not know who made the arrest, ask the jail line and check the inmate locator.

Fire, floods and mountain weather

Living in the foothills means living with weather. Red flag days, brush fires, heavy rain and mudslides can all close roads without much warning. If a family member is arrested during one of those events, getting to the jail or the courthouse can be harder than usual.

Tell us right away if you cannot travel. Many bond steps can be done by phone and online, and your cosigner may be able to handle the rest in a different way. If a court date lands on a day when roads are closed, call the court clerk and the attorney the same day, and tell us too. Courts have their own rules for emergencies, and the attorney is the right person to ask.

If you must evacuate, take the court papers, the bond paperwork and the phone numbers for the jail, your attorney and us. Keep them in a bag by the door. It is easy to forget paperwork in a rush, and these papers matter.

The same goes for the person who has been released. They should keep the release paper somewhere safe and know the date of their next hearing. Loss of a phone or a move because of a fire is an excuse a court may listen to, but only if the person explains it quickly and in writing.

How we keep it affordable

Premium is 10% of the bail, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or the defendant or co-signer is a veteran. We never call 1% the price. With approved credit, 1% down starts the bond and the balance is paid monthly.

On a $18,000 bail, the premium at 10% is $1,800 and the first payment is $180. On a $55,000 bail, the premium is $5,500 and the first payment is $550. You can run any number in the calculator.

The plan is Bail Today, Pay Later. Start with our online application.

Court in Van Nuys

Valley cases are generally heard at Van Nuys Courthouse East. It is a long trip for Sunland, so plan to leave early and plan for parking. If a hearing date is unclear, call the clerk.

The person must attend every date. Our guide to missed court dates explains the risks, and our resources directory lists legal help.

Pregnancy and special cases

Qualifying pregnant women, 8 months or more along, with bail of $50,000 or less on a non-violent charge and a working co-signer with proof of income, may be eligible for free bail with the premium waived, subject to approval. If she does not qualify, ask anyway, we are often able to help. See our pregnancy page for the full rules.

1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
