Foothill Area, and the station in Pacoima
Lake View Terrace is in the LAPD Foothill Area. The station is on Osborne Street in Pacoima, a few minutes from Foothill Boulevard. See our Foothill station page for the address and phone number.
The same station also covers Sunland, Tujunga, Shadow Hills and Sun Valley. After a Foothill arrest, a person is usually moved to the Valley Jail Section on Sylmar Avenue in Van Nuys, but that is not a published rule, so confirm before you go. The jail information line is 213-473-6100.
The route from the foothills
Take Foothill Boulevard or the 210 Freeway west toward the 5, then connect to the 118 or cut across on surface streets to Van Nuys. The ride is usually 25 to 45 minutes. In heavy traffic, it can take longer.
Streets near the jail can be crowded on weekdays when court is in session. The Valley Jail and Van Nuys Courthouse are close together, so one trip can serve both. Our Valley Jail page lists what to bring.
Brush season and storms can close canyon roads in this area. Check traffic and road closures before you head out at night.
Open land, horse trails and what comes up
Hansen Dam Recreation Area and the trails above the neighborhood bring people out on weekends, and the stretch of Foothill Boulevard near the Lake View Terrace Recreation Center is busy with families and sports. Not every arrest starts with a crime story. Some start with a car stop, a neighbor dispute or a party that grew too loud.
Whatever began it, once someone is in custody the process is the same. The charge sets the bail, the bail sets the premium and the co-signer makes the plan possible.
If you are the one who may sign, read our co-signer guide before you do. We want you to know exactly what you are agreeing to.
A close look at paying for a bond
Our premium is 10% of bail, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or the defendant or co-signer is a veteran. We never call 1% the price. On approved credit, 1% down begins the bond and the rest is a monthly plan.
| Bail | Premium at 10% | Premium at 8% | 1% down |
|---|---|---|---|
| $20,000 | $2,000 | $1,600 | $200 |
| $60,000 | $6,000 | $4,800 | $600 |
That plan is called Bail Today, Pay Later. Start the paperwork with the online application, about 4 minutes and no Social Security number online.
What to say when you call the jail
Jail staff are busy and often short on words. A clear call gets you farther. Keep it simple.
- Give the person's full legal name, spelled out slowly.
- Ask if they are in custody and where.
- Ask for the booking number and the bail amount.
- Ask whether there are holds from other agencies.
- Write down the name of whoever you spoke to and the time.
Do not argue about the arrest or ask what the officers did. The staff on the line cannot change that, and the call just gets longer. Save those questions for a lawyer.
If the line is busy, try again after a few minutes. Late at night, the wait is often shorter. You can also use the online LASD inmate locator, which lists the people who have been booked into the system. A new arrest can take some hours to appear, so a blank result does not always mean the person is gone.
When you reach us, share what you have. We can usually fill in the rest by checking directly. Our guide on finding someone in jail in Los Angeles shows each step.
Court at Van Nuys, and when a date gets confusing
Valley cases are generally heard at Van Nuys Courthouse East. Check your release papers for the date. If something does not make sense, call the court clerk, and call us too. We will not give legal advice, but we can help you read what the paperwork says.
If you need a lawyer and cannot pay for one, the resources directory lists public defenders and legal aid.
Pregnancy program, in short
Qualifying pregnant women, 8 months or more along, with bail of $50,000 or less on a non-violent charge and a working co-signer with proof of income, may be eligible for free bail with the premium waived, subject to approval. Ask even if you are not sure. We are often able to help. Read more on our pregnancy page.
1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
Questions people ask
Does Lake View Terrace have its own station?
No. It is served by the LAPD Foothill station in Pacoima.
Where will the person be held?
Usually the Valley Jail Section in Van Nuys, but LAPD can move people. Confirm with 213-473-6100.
Does bail change by neighborhood?
No. Bail comes from the charge and the county schedule, not from where you live. A judge can change it at a hearing.
Can I post bail myself?
You can pay the full bail directly to the jail in the forms they accept, or use a bail agent for a bond. Ask the jail and compare.
What if the sheriff arrested them?
In some areas the sheriff or another agency handles arrests. Use the LASD locator and call us once you know where they are.
