Foothill Division and the Osborne Street station
The Hansen Dam area is covered by the LAPD Foothill Division. The station is at 12760 Osborne Street in Pacoima, only a short drive from the dam. Foothill serves Pacoima, Lake View Terrace, Sunland, Tujunga and Sun Valley communities, so the station is very busy.
Arrests there usually go to the Valley Jail Section in Van Nuys, though LAPD can move people. Call to confirm. Our Foothill station page has the front desk number and the Valley Jail page covers visiting and bail.
Arrests in a big recreation area
Hansen Dam Recreation Area is a large park with a lake, trails, picnic areas and open fields. Weekend crowds are common, and so are late evening visitors. Police calls in parks can include alcohol after closing, illegal dumping, fireworks, off-leash dogs and disputes between groups. Most of these are misdemeanors or citations, and many do not need a bond at all.
If the person was cited and released at the scene, they may not be in jail. Check first before paying anything. Read our guide on pre-arraignment release.
Getting to Sylmar Avenue
From the dam, take Osborne Street or Foothill Boulevard to the 210 or the 5 Freeway, then south toward Van Nuys. The Valley Jail is at 6240 Sylmar Avenue. The drive is about twenty minutes at night and longer at rush hour, when the 5 and 405 slow down.
Plan for a short walk from parking. Weekday spots near the courthouse fill early. Our office is downtown at 900 Avila St, but most Valley families finish the process by phone and online.
How the payment works
Our premium is 10% of the bail, or 8% if a private attorney is retained or the defendant or co-signer is a veteran. You begin with 1% down on approved credit and pay the rest monthly.
- For $6,000 bail, the premium is $600 and 1% down is $60.
- For $25,000 bail, the premium is $2,500 and 1% down is $250.
Use the calculator or read how bail works. Approval is never guaranteed, so call early.
What families around Pacoima and Lake View Terrace ask
Families in this area often ask whether a relative can help from out of state, what happens if the co-signer is paid in cash, and how to read the court papers. Yes, a relative can usually help from afar. Paid in cash, call us and we will discuss what proof of income may work. For court papers, send us a photo and we will help you read the next date.
Spanish speakers can ask for a Spanish speaking agent. Read co-signer responsibilities before you agree, so you know what the promise means.
If the call comes at night
Most calls about the dam area come late. Someone is picked up at dusk, and by the time the family hears, it is midnight. Do not wait for morning. Booking records can take a few hours to appear, but the sooner we start, the sooner we can check the record and tell you the bail amount.
Here is what helps us most. The person's full legal name. Their birth date. The street or park entrance where it happened. The name of the officer or the report number if they gave one. If you have none of this, call anyway. We will ask simple questions and work with whatever you know.
The Valley Jail does not hand out information casually, and the county locator can lag. So a call from us to the jail can sometimes confirm what a website cannot. We never promise a release time, because the jail sets that, but we stay with you until the bond is posted.
The dam is a wide, open place, and a quiet evening there can turn into a long night for a family. Many people end up in custody for something small, a bad decision or a misunderstanding. A bond lets the person go home and handle the case with a lawyer, a job and family nearby.
Valley court and next dates
Cases from the Foothill area are usually heard at Van Nuys Courthouse East at 6230 Sylmar Avenue. Check the release papers for the department. A missed date is serious. We remind clients, and our guide on missed court dates explains what can happen.
Our resources directory lists public defenders, legal aid and court help centers at no cost.
We also help families in Pacoima and Lake View Terrace. Apply online at /apply/ in about four minutes, no Social Security number typed online.
Qualifying pregnant women, eight months or more, with a non-violent charge, bail of $50,000 or less and a working co-signer may get free bail, with the premium waived, subject to approval. If you do not qualify, ask anyway. We are often able to help. See the program page.
1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
