Which police station took the call

The neighborhood is quieter than its neighbors think, and most people who live there want the same things anyone else wants, safe blocks and steady work. An arrest here is usually a single bad night, not the whole story of a person or a family. We treat every call that way.

Green Meadows is covered by the LAPD 77th Street Area. The station is at 7600 South Broadway, and its front desk number is 323-786-5077. See our 77th Street station page.

Some blocks on the south edge near Imperial Highway sit close to areas covered by other agencies. If you are unsure who made the arrest, call the inmate line at 213-473-6100 or search app.lasd.org/iic.

Where the person is likely held

South Bureau arrestees are usually taken to the 77th Street Regional Jail at the same address as the station. Usually is the right word. News reports say the jail has lacked on site medical staff, so people who need medical clearance may be taken to the Metropolitan Detention Center downtown or the Valley Jail in Van Nuys.

The 77th Street Regional Jail page lists the phone and visiting rules. Visitors are limited, and bail agents can visit at any time.

Getting there from Avalon and Main

The trip is short. Take Avalon Boulevard or Main Street north to Manchester Avenue, then go west a few blocks to Broadway. By bus, several lines serve Avalon, Main and Manchester. If the person was taken downtown instead, the 110 freeway is the main route.

Late night bus service varies, so check the schedule before you count on it, and keep a rideshare as a backup.

The money, as plainly as we can say it

Premium is the bond fee. It is 10% of bail at the filed rate, or 8% if a private attorney is retained or the defendant or co-signer is a veteran. Bail Today, Pay Later lets you start with 1% down on approved credit, then pay the balance monthly.

On a $15,000 bail, the premium is $1,500, and the 1% down payment is $150. On a $50,000 bail, it is $5,000 and $500. Approval is required. Our guide to how bail works in Los Angeles explains every step.

Families with several jobs and tight budgets

Imperial Highway and the nearby freeways mean many residents commute long distances for work in the airport area, the harbor and the warehouses of the South Bay. A late night arrest might happen far from home, on a bus route or at a job site. Tell us where it happened so we can help you track the booking.

Many Green Meadows households depend on two or three paychecks. A missed shift can hurt. If you are the co-signer, tell us how you earn money, and we will tell you what proof we need. Pay stubs are common, and bank records can help.

A co-signer must be sure the defendant makes every court date. Choose someone organized and reachable. If you share a phone number across the household, make sure it is one that gets answered.

Court and after

South Los Angeles cases may start at courthouses that depend on the charge. A downtown booking leads to the Central Arraignment Courthouse on Bauchet Street. The paperwork you get on release shows the date and the court.

After release, keep the paperwork in one folder and keep the folder in one place. Tell a second family member where it is. If the defendant forgets a date, someone else can remind them. Courts do not accept a lost paper as a reason for missing a hearing.

If the person needs a lawyer and cannot pay, ask the court about a public defender. Our resources directory lists legal aid and court help, all free or low cost.

1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
