Men's Central Jail
What Happens After Bail Is Posted at Men's Central Jail
After a bond is posted, the Sheriff's Department verifies it and runs its release steps through the Inmate Reception Center next door at 450 Bauchet Street. LASD lists a release phone at (213) 893-5347. Nobody can promise a release time, because jail processing sets it. Bring ID and have his booking number ready.

- Bail is postedA bond is delivered or cash is paid, and the jail accepts it.
- Jail checks the paperworkStaff match the name, birth date and booking number and look for holds.

- He is releasedThe jail sets the time. Ask by phone where to wait.
What are the steps once bail is paid?
First, the bond or cash is accepted and the jail checks it. Next, staff clear any holds on the person. Then property and paperwork are handled, and the person is released.
MCJ is connected to the same release process as the Inmate Reception Center. LASD's own contact list for the IRC has a release line, (213) 893-5347, and a cashier's office, (213) 473-6049. We could not confirm hours for cash bail posting, so call first.
Where does he walk out?
LASD does not say on its public pages which door or lobby a man uses. Do not assume it is the MCJ visiting lobby. The IRC release line is the number to call, and the complex around Bauchet Street is easy to misread.
Ask on the phone where to wait, and write it down. If he is being released from a city police jail, LASD says to ask that jail's watch commander for the time and place.
Why can release take a while?
A bond does not skip the jail's other work. Any hold, a warrant in another county or a probation issue can pause a release. Paperwork has to match, so the name, date of birth and booking number on the bond must match the jail record. We use the inmate lookup before we start, which helps catch mismatches.
LASD does not publish a release time, and we will not either. Plan to be patient and keep your phone on.
What should I bring to pick him up?
Bring your own photo ID. Bring a charged phone and a copy of the bond paperwork we give you. Bring clothes and shoes for the weather, in case what he arrived in is not suitable. Bring money for a ride or transit.
His belongings come back through the property process. If something is missing, see our property release page. If a money balance is on his books, LASD says trust accounts are purged about 30 days after release.
What does a bond ask of him after release?
He must come to every court date. A missed date can lead to a forfeiture and an arrest warrant. Our bail money returns guide explains what is and is not returned. If you are the co-signer, read what you agreed to.
To start a bond for a man at MCJ, call (213) 725-2815. We prepare the bond, and the jail completes the release steps.
What if release seems slow?
Call the IRC release line at (213) 893-5347 and give his full name and booking number. Ask only whether the bond has been accepted and whether there is a hold. Staff will not give a pickup time, and neither can we.
Call us at (213) 725-2815 if the question is about the bond. For the jail, call the jail. If he was moved to Twin Towers, see our Twin Towers release page.
Keep a short log with the time you called, the person you spoke to and what you were told. If a hold comes up, ask which agency placed it and whether his attorney should call. Stay calm and polite on the phone. Staff handle many calls, and a clear name and booking number help them help you.
1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
Questions people ask
How long will release take?
No one can promise a time. The jail controls it, and holds can add delay.
Which number do I call for release status?
LASD lists the IRC release line as (213) 893-5347.
Can I wait at the Men's Central lobby?
Ask first. LASD does not say where released men exit, so confirm by phone.
What if he has a hold?
A hold from another case or county can stop a release even after bail is posted.
Do I need to bring cash for his release?
Not for a bond. Bring your ID and the paperwork. A ride home is the main cost to plan for.
