Men's Central Jail

How to Get Property Released at Men's Central Jail

For money, the inmate gets a Money Release Form (the pink slip) from custody staff and submits it. LASD says withdrawals are processed at the Inmate Reception Center or Century Regional, typically approved within 24 to 48 hours, and you bring government photo ID. For belongings, call the IRC property line at (213) 893-5352, because third party release steps are not public.

How does money get out of an inmate account?

LASD says the inmate asks custody staff for a Money Release Form, known as the pink slip, and submits it. All withdrawals are processed at the Inmate Reception Center (IRC) at 450 Bauchet Street, or at Century Regional Detention Facility. LASD says they are typically approved and available within 24 to 48 hours after submission.

Bring government photo ID. LASD lists the IRC cashier line as (213) 893-5875 and the cashier's office as (213) 473-6049. Call before you go downtown.

Can family pick up keys, a wallet or a phone?

This is the part LASD does not publish. The policy exists in an internal manual that sits behind a login, so we cannot give you steps, and we will not guess. What we can give you is the right place to call.

The IRC lists an Inmate Property line at (213) 893-5352. Call it with the man's full name and booking number and ask whether property can be released to a family member, what ID is needed, what written permission is needed from him and which hours apply.

Does the attorney room at MCJ handle property?

It can. LASD's FAQ says the Men's Central attorney room passes property release slips and vehicle releases through the window, along with notary items and powers of attorney. Valid ID is required. Personal checks, cashier's checks, money draws and pawn slips are not accepted there.

That window is for professional visitors, with hours Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 7 PM and the last pass at 5:45 PM. If his lawyer is already involved, ask whether they can handle a slip. Do not show up at the window as a family member.

What happens to belongings when bail is posted?

When a man is released, his property is handled in the release process at the IRC, and LASD lists a release phone at (213) 893-5347. We could not confirm from an official page where you wait or how long it takes, and no one can give a time.

Read our release after bail page for the full steps. If he is released with a bond, keep a list of what he had on him at arrest. That list helps if something is missing.

What if his car or house keys are in the property bag?

Vehicle releases go through the attorney room route above. House keys and a phone are personal property, so call the IRC property line first. Meanwhile, if a bond is how he comes home, 1% down on approved credit is how many families start, and we can be reached at (213) 725-2815.

What should I write down before I call?

Have his full legal name, date of birth and booking number. Know what you are asking for, such as cash, keys, a phone or a vehicle. Know your own full name and have your photo ID in hand. Know whether he can sign a written note naming you, because many agencies ask for one, though LASD has not published that rule for us.

Write down who you spoke to and when. If you are told to come in, ask which building and which window, since 441 and 450 Bauchet Street are close and look alike.

1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
