How Much Is Bail at the 77th Street Regional Jail?

Bail comes from the Los Angeles County bail schedule, based on the charge. The 2026 felony schedule took effect January 1, 2026. Some people are released with no bail before court. To get the amount, call (213) 473-6100 or the jail at (323) 786-5541 with the full name and date of birth.

Work out the 1% down payment

An estimate only. Final terms depend on approval. The premium is the filed rate. 1% down is a down payment on approved credit.

How is bail figured after a South LA arrest?

At booking, staff match the charge to the county bail schedule. The Los Angeles Superior Court posts a felony schedule, the 2026 edition, effective January 1, 2026. Each charge has a base amount, and add-ons raise it for certain facts.

Felonies that are not listed default to $0 bail. Wobblers fall under the misdemeanor schedule, and we could not confirm its current link. Our guide to bail in California walks through it.

Where do I find the number?

Call the custody line at (213) 473-6100 or the jail at (323) 786-5541. Have the full legal name, date of birth and booking number. We could not confirm that the online lookup shows bail. If you want to check yourself, the court's schedule PDF has a worksheet, but ask the jail to confirm the final number.

The 77th Street inmate search page shows how to get a booking number.

Could they be released with no bail?

Possibly. Under a county protocol in effect since October 1, 2023, eligible people may be released with no conditions, released with conditions, or held until arraignment. Cite and release and book and release mean a promise to appear and $0 bail. The third group goes before a magistrate.

Serious charges do not qualify, and neither do people on felony probation, parole or PRCS or with 3 or more recent missed court dates. Read our pre-arraignment release guide.

Can we ask for a lower bail before court?

In many cases, yes. Penal Code 1269c lets an attorney, friend or family member ask a magistrate for lower bail or release on a promise. Call the Pre-Arraignment Support Unit at (213) 633-6350 within two hours of booking. It is staffed 24 hours a day.

This is not allowed for every charge, and police can ask to raise bail in the same window. The judge at arraignment is not bound by the early amount. Arraignment is usually within 48 hours of arrest, unless a weekend or holiday gets in the way.

What if the amount is more than we have?

A bond lets you pay the premium instead of the full bail. With 1% down on approved credit, you start with 1% of the bail, and the premium is 10% of the bail, or 8% for a retained private attorney or a veteran. The calculator on this page shows your numbers. You can also ask the judge at arraignment to look at the amount again. The court's schedule says release cannot rest on ability to pay alone.

If the person is moved to county custody, bail stays the same. See the Inmate Reception Center page or call us at (213) 725-2815.

What do I tell the bail agent?

Give the full legal name, the date of birth and the booking number, plus the charge if you know it. Tell the agent which jail holds the person. If an attorney has been hired, say so, since that can change the premium rate. If the person or the co-signer is a veteran, say that too.

Then ask for the bail amount, the premium and the payment plan in writing before you sign anything. A fair agent shows you the whole price next to any down payment. Our online application takes about 4 minutes and asks for no SSN online.

If something looks off, write down the charge and the amount the jail gave you before you call anyone else. That keeps the story straight between the jail, the court and the bail agent.

1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.

Questions people ask

Who sets bail?

Jail staff apply the county schedule. A magistrate or judge may change it.

What if the charge is not listed?

Unlisted felonies default to $0 bail and release on a promise to appear.

Can bail change at arraignment?

Yes. The judge is not bound by the pre-arraignment amount.

Is the bail money returned?

Read our guide on whether bail money is returned.

What if I think the amount is wrong?

Ask the jail how it was figured, and ask a lawyer to look at the charge and any add-ons. A mistake in the charge changes the number. You can also ask the court for a review at arraignment.
