Pacific Division on Culver Boulevard
Venice is served by the LAPD Pacific Division. The station is at 12312 Culver Boulevard, a few miles inland from the beach. Pacific also covers Playa del Rey, Mar Vista and Del Rey, and it is one of the larger patrol areas on the Westside.
Arrests here usually go on to the Metropolitan Detention Center downtown, though LAPD can move people. Call to confirm. See the Pacific station page and the MDC page.
The boardwalk, the canals and Abbot Kinney
The Venice Beach Boardwalk, Muscle Beach, the Venice Canals and Abbot Kinney Boulevard draw huge crowds, especially on warm weekends and holidays. Police calls in a place like this can include drinking in public, drugs, fights, curfew and park rule violations, and drunk driving after dinner or a beach party.
Many people arrested here are visitors. If your family member lives out of state, tell us. We can still help. A co-signer with ID and proof of income starts the process, and much of it is done by phone and online. Read pre-arraignment release, because some low-level arrests end in a release without bail.
Airport Courthouse
Venice cases are often heard at the Airport Courthouse at 11701 South La Cienega Boulevard, near LAX. That is different from many other neighborhoods we cover, where the court is downtown or in the Valley. The release papers show the court, department and date. Confirm with the court, because assignments can change.
Do not miss a date. Read missed court dates. If you do not live nearby, a lawyer may be able to appear for the person at some hearings. Ask the attorney.
Getting from the beach to the jail
From Venice, take Lincoln Boulevard or Venice Boulevard to the 10 Freeway, then east to the Civic Center. It is about fifteen miles. At 2 in the morning, plan for thirty minutes. At rush hour, it can take over an hour. Beach traffic on summer weekends makes everything slower.
You can also start everything from your phone. Use /apply/, which takes about four minutes with no Social Security number typed online. Our office at 900 Avila St is near the downtown jails if you want to stop in.
Cost, in plain numbers
The premium is 10% of the bail on our filed rate. With a private attorney, or a veteran defendant or co-signer, it is 8%. You begin with 1% down on approved credit and pay the balance monthly.
- On $5,000 bail, the premium is $500 and 1% down is $50.
- On $30,000 bail, the premium is $3,000 and 1% down is $300.

Visitors, locals and a mixed community
Venice is a mix of longtime residents, artists, shop workers, tourists and people without stable housing. Whoever your person is, we treat the family with respect. A co-signer needs ID and proof of income, and we are glad to talk through what may be accepted.
If you need free legal help, our resources directory lists public defenders and legal aid. We cannot recommend an attorney. Spanish speakers can ask for a Spanish speaking agent.
Neighbors and the pregnancy program
We also serve Mar Vista and Playa del Rey. Qualifying pregnant women, eight months or more, non-violent charge, bail of $50,000 or less, with a working co-signer, may get free bail, premium waived, subject to approval. If you do not qualify, ask anyway. We are often able to help. See the program page.
If your person is moved to county custody, use the inmate locator or call 213-473-6100.
Write down the full name, birth date, the place of arrest and the charge. Ask if a bail amount was set. Charge your phone. Then call us. We will check the booking and explain the choices. If the person was cited and released, you may not need a bond, so always check first.
After the bond, plan a ride for your person. Release timing depends on the jail. Keep every paper they are handed, and take a photo of the court dates the same night.
Venice is a place where plans change fast. If your person had a car parked near the beach, a phone left at a friend's place or a job shift to cover, sort those out in the morning with a clear head. Nothing needs to be solved in the first hour except finding them and starting the bond.
1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
