San Pedro Bail Bonds

San Pedro is a long way from the downtown jails, and that distance makes an arrest here feel even more stressful. Jane Un Bail Bonds is a licensed California bail agent, open 24 hours, and we handle the miles for you. Call (213) 725-2815.

This page is for families in San Pedro, ZIPs 90731 and 90732, from the waterfront and Ports O' Call side up the hill toward Gaffey Street. It explains what the Harbor Area station does, how bail is posted when the person may be held far from home, and how the cost works.

If you are reading this at night, start with the first section and call when you are ready.

The Harbor Area station on John S. Gibson Boulevard

San Pedro is in LAPD's Harbor Area. The station is at 2175 John S. Gibson Blvd., San Pedro, CA 90731, and the front desk number is 310-726-7700. The same station also serves Wilmington, Harbor City and Terminal Island, so officers cover a lot of ground, from the port to quiet residential streets.

Our Harbor Area station page lists what we know. A call to the desk can tell you whether a person is there, but staff may only confirm the basics.

Where the person is held is less clear here

LAPD publishes three jail facilities, and it does not publish which jail takes arrests from which area. For Harbor, our records do not name a booking jail with confidence. That is a fact we would rather tell you than guess.

In practice a person arrested in San Pedro may be processed at the Harbor station and then moved to a larger LAPD jail, or held for a short time and released. Do not assume the downtown Metropolitan Detention Center, but do check it. Our MDC page and 77th Street Regional Jail page list the other likely places.

The county locator at app5.lasd.org/iic and the information line at 213-473-6100 will show where the person is. Call that line before you drive anywhere.

The long drive north

From San Pedro to downtown is more than 20 miles. The usual way is the Harbor Freeway, the 110, north through Wilmington and Carson to the Civic Center. At night that can be about 30 minutes. On a weekday afternoon it can take well over an hour.

Parking near the downtown jails is tight, so a family driving up from the harbor should plan for it. Our LA office at 900 Avila St Suite 101 is a short walk from the jails, and we can meet you there if you prefer. Most of the time you will not need to, because we can handle the paperwork by phone and online.

Harbor jobs, shifts and proof of income

Many San Pedro families work shifts at the port, at the shipyards, in restaurants on the waterfront, or in the fishing and trucking trades. Shift work often means pay stubs from more than one employer, or cash pay.

Approval is easier with a working co-signer who can show proof of income, such as a recent pay stub, an employer phone number or a bank statement. If your pay is irregular, tell us how you earn, and we will explain what we can accept.

If the arrested person is a veteran, or you hire a private attorney, the premium drops from 10% to 8% of bail.

What the down payment looks like

The filed premium is 10% of bail. We start with 1% down on approved credit, then set a monthly plan for the balance through Bail Today, Pay Later, a program Jane started in 2004.

On a $15,000 bail that means $150 down and a $1,500 premium at 10%. On a $60,000 bail, $600 down and a $6,000 premium. 1% is the start of the payment plan and not the price, and approval is required.

Run your own figure in the calculator or begin the online application. It takes about 4 minutes.

After release, the court

Court location depends on the charge and where the case was filed, and our records do not name a single courthouse for Harbor Area cases. Read the paperwork you are given at release. It names the court, the department, the date and the time.

If you cannot find the date, search the case through the court or call us. Our guide on what to do after an arrest walks through the steps. Missing a date can lead to a warrant and a forfeited bond.

Women in custody and the Lynwood jail

Women booked into county custody are often held at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, about 20 minutes north of San Pedro by the 110 and the 105. If the woman is 8 months or more pregnant, ask about our qualifying community program. The charge must be non-violent, bail $50,000 or less, with a working co-signer and proof of income, subject to approval.

Read more on our pregnancy program page. If you are unsure whether you fit, ask anyway.

1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.

Questions people ask

Does San Pedro have a local jail?

LAPD's Harbor station is on John S. Gibson Boulevard, but our records do not name a booking jail for Harbor arrests. Check the locator.

Can I post bail without driving up to the jail?

Usually yes. We can work with the jail directly, and you can sign most paperwork by phone and online.

Is the same bond rate used in San Pedro as elsewhere?

Yes. The premium is the filed rate, 10% of bail or 8% with a private attorney or veteran status.

What if the arrest was at the port?

Port arrests can involve other agencies. The booking record tells you who arrested the person and where they are held.

How do I check on my person at night?

Use app5.lasd.org/iic or call 213-473-6100. Both run around the clock.
