Bail Bonds for Arrests at Griffith Park

Griffith Park is a huge city park, not a street address, and that makes an arrest there confusing for families. Where the person is held depends on who made the arrest and where in the park it happened.

Call Jane Un Bail Bonds at (213) 725-2815 and a person answers any hour. We will help you find where your loved one is and start the bond if you choose to. This page explains how park arrests tend to flow through LAPD Hollywood Division, the downtown jail and the courts.

Why a park arrest is harder to trace

Griffith Park runs from Los Feliz up to the Hollywood Sign and over toward Burbank. It holds the Griffith Observatory, the Los Angeles Zoo, hiking trails, a golf course and the Greek Theatre area. Arrests happen at trailheads, in parking lots, on Western Canyon Road and after late events.

The land is city property, and LAPD patrols it along with park rangers. Our data places the area in LAPD Hollywood Division, whose station is at 1358 N. Wilcox Avenue, phone 213-972-2971. The edges of the park touch other divisions, so confirm by phone.

Where the person usually ends up

After booking at the Hollywood station, most people are usually taken to the Metropolitan Detention Center at 180 N. Los Angeles St. Check the Hollywood station page for the front desk details. Medical issues can send someone to the Valley jail in Van Nuys instead.

The 24 hour line at 213-473-6100 and the online inmate locator will show where the person is once booking is complete. It can take a few hours to appear.

If the arrest happened on the Burbank side of the park or near the Autry and the zoo, the person may have been handled by a neighboring division first. LAPD can move someone from one station to another, and a person who needs medical care is sometimes taken somewhere different from the usual jail. That is why we tell families to confirm the location by phone before driving across town in the dark.

Common reasons families call us from the park area

We hear about after-hours trail gatherings, drinking in the park, disputes at the Observatory lot and parking or vehicle problems on the narrow hill roads. Some are minor and some are not. The bail amount depends on the charge, not the place.

If you are not sure what the charge is, ask the booking desk or give us the name and birth date. We can look for the booking record together.

Families from nearby streets such as Los Feliz, Atwater Village and the Hollywood Hills call us after a weekend night more than any other time. Many of these are first-time arrests. The person is scared, the phone was taken at booking, and nobody knows what to do. You are not alone in that, and you do not have to figure out the paperwork yourself. Tell us what you know and we will fill in the rest of the steps with you.

Driving to the jail from the park

From Los Feliz Boulevard, take the 5 south or the 101 into downtown and exit toward Los Angeles Street. Late at night it is about a half hour. By Metro, the B Line from Vermont and Sunset reaches Union Station and a short walk takes you to the jail.

Parking near the jail is limited, so plan on a paid lot. Bring photo ID.

If you do not want to drive that late, tell us. Our agent can handle much of the process with you by phone, and the online application at our apply page takes about four minutes with no SSN entered online. You can fill it out from your couch while you wait for the person to be booked.

Court after a park arrest

Cases from this area are likely heard downtown. Arraignment is commonly at the Central Arraignment Courthouse on Bauchet Street, and later hearings at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center, 210 W. Temple St. Some misdemeanors go to a branch court. Your bail paperwork lists the date.

To find a case, you can also use the court's public case lookup and the person's booking number. If the date is unclear, call us and we will help you figure out which courtroom to go to. Plan to arrive early, because security lines at the Foltz center can be long.

Skipping court is the fastest way to lose a bond. Read our guide to what to do after an arrest.

The cost and how 1% down works

Premium is 10% of bail, the filed rate, or 8% with a private attorney or a veteran defendant or co-signer. Our 1% down option lets you put 1% of the bail down on approved credit, with the rest paid on a monthly plan. See the calculator, or begin at the application.

Say the bail is $20,000. The premium at 10% is $2,000, so the 1% down payment on approved credit would be $200, and the remaining premium goes on the payment plan. If a private attorney is retained or the defendant is a veteran, the premium is 8% instead, which is $1,600. We may ask for approval, a co-signer and proof of income. We will go over every number before you sign anything.

1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.

Questions people ask

Is Griffith Park under LAPD or the Sheriff?

It is within the City of Los Angeles, so LAPD handles most arrests. Park rangers are also present. If you cannot find the person, call the inmate line at 213-473-6100.

How long until the person shows in the system?

It can take a few hours after booking. Keep checking and call us if nothing appears by morning.

Can someone else sign for the bond?

Yes. A co-signer, such as a parent or spouse, applies for the bond. Approval is required. Read about co-signer responsibilities first.

Does the 8% rate apply to me?

It can if a private attorney is retained or the defendant or co-signer is a veteran. Otherwise the premium is the 10% filed rate.

What if we cannot afford the down payment?

Call us anyway. We will explain the options, including payment plans on approved credit.
