Crenshaw Boulevard and the Southwest station

This part of South L.A. runs along Crenshaw Boulevard, with the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza and the Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area as well known places. ZIP codes include 90008, 90056 and 90043. Leimert Park, Jefferson Park and West Adams are its neighbors.

In our data it belongs to the LAPD Southwest Division. The station is at 1546 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in the 90062 area. We do not have a verified front desk number, so look it up on the LAPD site before you call. See our Southwest station page. Another call is to the county line at 213-473-6100.

The hills here give long views over the city, and streets climb and bend. People can be on one side of a ridge and under a different patrol area than a neighbor, so tell us the nearest cross street when you call.

Where Southwest arrests usually go, and why to double check

Arrests in South Bureau usually go to the 77th Street Regional Jail at 7600 S. Broadway. We say usually, and we mean it. News reports in late 2026 said that jail had no medical staff on site until January 2027, so some people have been taken to MDC downtown or to the Valley for medical clearance first. LAPD can also move people when a jail fills up.

So before you drive, call the county line or look the person up at app.lasd.org/iic. A wasted trip at night is a hard thing. Our find someone in jail guide shows each step.

Getting there and which court

To reach the Broadway jail, take Slauson or Vernon east, or use the 110 Harbor Freeway south of downtown. Metro's K Line runs along Crenshaw Boulevard and links to other lines. If the person is at MDC, the 10 and the 110 lead downtown, and the C Line connects to the 110 corridor.

Parking at the jails is limited. Ask us where to park before you drive. A quick look at the online application can save time at the counter. The form runs about 4 minutes and skips your Social Security number online.

We do not have a confirmed court for this area. It depends on where the person was booked and how the case is filed. A downtown booking often leads to the Central Arraignment Courthouse on Bauchet Street or the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center on W. Temple Street. Other cases may go to a courthouse closer to home.

Your paperwork and the court notice will say. If it is not clear, ask the clerk or ask us. Read the missed court date guide so every date is safe.

Paying when money is tight

Many families here carry real financial weight, and a bail amount can feel impossible. On any bond the premium is 10% of the bail, falling to 8% with a retained private attorney or a veteran defendant or co-signer. Through Bail Today, Pay Later, you start with 1% of the bail down on approved credit. The rest is paid monthly.

The bail calculator shows your numbers. Our guide to 1% down versus 10% bail shows how the two compare.

Co-signers, support and pregnancy

A co-signer promises the court the person will come back. Read the co-signer guide before signing. Choose someone steady.

If the person is a pregnant woman, 8 months or more, ask about our program. The premium may be waived for qualifying women on bail of $50,000 or less for a non-violent charge, with a working co-signer and proof of income, subject to approval. Read the pregnancy bail program page. Miss one point? Ask anyway.

Public defenders and legal aid are listed on our resources page. See nearby Leimert Park and Jefferson Park for related help.

What changes if you hire a private lawyer

Many families ask whether to get a private attorney before they call a bond agent. We cannot recommend one, and we do not give legal advice. We can tell you how it affects a bond. When a private attorney is retained, the premium can be 8% instead of 10% of the bail.

You do not need to decide before you call us. If you cannot afford a private lawyer, the public defender may be appointed at the first court appearance. Our resources directory lists public defenders, court self help centers and legal aid that you can contact yourself.

Whatever you choose, keep every paper. The charge sheet, the bail amount, the court date and the bond receipt belong in one folder. A lawyer will ask for them.

Visiting, phones and what to bring

The 77th Street Regional Jail has a desk phone at 323-786-5541. Our jail page lists what we know about posting and visiting. Hours and rules can change, so call first.

Bring a photo ID. Leave bags in the car if you can. A person released at night will have only what they came in with, so bring a phone charger and a ride home. Metro's K Line and buses on Crenshaw and Vernon may thin out late, and a rideshare can help.

If the person is pregnant and held in county custody, women are generally held at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood. Read the pregnant in jail guide for what families can expect.

1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
