Inmate Reception Center (IRC)
How Do I Get Property or Money Released at the Inmate Reception Center (IRC)?
For money on a person's account, the inmate gets a Money Release Form from custody staff, and withdrawals are handled at the IRC or Century Regional. LASD says they are typically available within 24 to 48 hours. Bring government photo ID. For belongings, call the IRC property line at (213) 893-5352 first.
How do I get account money back at the IRC?
LASD says the person must ask for it. Custody staff give them a Money Release Form, which LASD calls a pink slip, and they submit it. Withdrawals are processed at the IRC or at Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood. LASD says they are typically approved and available within 24 to 48 hours after submission.
Whoever picks up should bring a government photo ID. The IRC is at 450 Bauchet St., Los Angeles. LASD lists the cashier line at (213) 893-5875 and the cashier's office at (213) 473-6049. Hours were not on the page we read, so call before you drive.
What about keys, wallet and phone at the IRC?
Here is what we can say for sure. The LAPD says arrestee property goes in a property bag. LASD lists an inmate property line at the IRC, (213) 893-5352. LASD also has an internal policy for releasing property to a third party, but that manual is behind a login and we could not read it.
So we do not want to guess at steps or what paper you need. Call (213) 893-5352 and ask these four things.
- Is the property here, or did it go with the person?
- Can someone other than the person pick it up?
- What ID and paperwork do I bring?
- What days and hours can I come?
Write down the name of the staff member you speak to and the date. If you are not the next of kin, say so up front. Ask whether the person must sign something before anyone else can collect the items.
Do not send a friend to the IRC without calling first. The IRC is a busy processing center, and a wasted trip costs a long drive and a day of work. If the person has already moved to another jail, ask the property line where the belongings are now.
What ID should I bring to the IRC?
LASD says to bring a government photo ID for money matters. A driver license, state ID or passport fits that. Bring the person's full name and booking number too, in writing. If you are picking up for family, bring anything the property line asks for.
For an attorney, LASD lists property release slips as something that can be passed through a window in the Men's Central attorney room with valid ID. That is the MCJ rule. Ask which window applies if a lawyer is helping you.
How long do I have to claim IRC money?
LASD says trust accounts are purged about 30 days after release. Do not wait. If your loved one was released and left money behind, go or call soon. If the person is still inside, they start the process by asking staff for the Money Release Form. You cannot start it for them, so tell them what to ask for on your next call.
To add money instead of taking it out, read how to send money at the IRC.
Does release from the IRC affect property?
Property and release are two steps. A person who is released may get their things back as they leave, or may need to come back. We do not know which, because LASD does not say. Ask the release line at (213) 893-5347. Our page on release after bail at the IRC covers what to expect.
If bail is set and your family needs help with it, you can start with 1% of the bail amount down on approved credit. The premium is set by our filed rate, and the rest goes on a payment plan. Read how 1% down works or start an application. We are a licensed private bail agent, not part of LASD.
1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
