What does a Hollenbeck Station arrest look like on day one?
Hollenbeck Station is at 2111 E. 1st St. Its official area includes Boyle Heights, El Sereno, Lincoln Heights, Montecito Heights, University Hills, Monterey Hills and several housing communities such as Pico Gardens, Ramona Gardens and Estrada Court. It is in the Central Bureau.
After an arrest, officers drive the person to a jail. The station is where the officers work from, so the person is rarely held there for long. Expect the first hours to be quiet for the family. The person is moved, searched and entered into the system before anyone can tell you much.
Will they go to MDC, and how far is that from Hollenbeck?
Usually the jail is the Metropolitan Detention Center at 180 N. Los Angeles St.. It is downtown, so the family has a trip from the east side,. Call (213) 356-3400 before you leave. LAPD can move people between jails and does not publish an area chart, so "usually" is the honest word.
If you cannot find the person, the county line, (213) 473-6100, is open around the clock and covers both LAPD and LASD jails. You will need the full legal name and date of birth.
Can we bail someone out of a Hollenbeck Station arrest right away?
If bail is set, you can start as soon as the person is booked. LAPD jails take bail 24 hours a day. The jail accepts a surety bond, and a licensed bail agent can handle that for a premium. See how bail is set at the MDC to understand how amounts are chosen. The what happens after bail is posted at the MDC page covers what comes next.
There are two things that can slow it down. The jail may find another hold or a warrant. And some charges are not eligible for release before arraignment. We cannot promise a release time, because the jail finishes the last steps.
What happens at arraignment for a Hollenbeck Station arrest?
At arraignment, a judge reads the charge and decides on release conditions. The court says it typically occurs within 48 hours of arrest unless there is a holiday or a weekend. LAPD says the court depends on where the arrest happened and the charge.
You can ask the magistrate for a lower amount or release on the person's own promise. Call the court's Pre-Arraignment Support Unit at (213) 633-6350 within two hours of booking. An attorney, friend or family member can make that call. It does not work for every charge.
What if the person goes to county jail?
LAPD says people still held after arraignment are remanded to LASD. Men are usually processed at the Inmate Reception Center, which has no visiting because it is a temporary holding center. Women are held at Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood.
Bail can still be posted after the move. When it is, our agent hands over a numbered written statement of the bond. Keep it, and read our guide to whether bail money is returned to see how bail money is handled once the case is over. For other pages in this area, see the Hollenbeck Station page. If you want to talk to a licensed agent, call us at (213) 725-2815. We offer a 1% down option on approved credit.
1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
