What Happens After an Arrest at Devonshire Station?

After an arrest by Devonshire Station, a person is usually booked at the Valley Jail Section in Van Nuys, not at the Northridge station. LAPD takes bail around the clock. If the person stays in custody, arraignment typically follows within about 48 hours, and then they go to LASD county jail.

What happens in the first hours after a Devonshire Station arrest?

Devonshire Station is at 10250 Etiwanda Ave. in Northridge, in the Valley Bureau. Its official communities are Chatsworth, Granada Hills, Northridge and Porter Ranch. The first hours matter because of a few time limits.

A person must be allowed at least three completed calls, right after booking and no later than three hours after arrest. The county's records do not show a new booking for about 2 hours. And a request for a lower bail amount before arraignment must come within two hours of booking. Keep a note of the times.

Does Devonshire Station send people to the Valley Jail Section?

Usually. The Valley Jail Section is at 6240 Sylmar Ave. in Van Nuys, and its number is (818) 374-9645. The county line, (213) 473-6100, also tells you where a person is held. LAPD does not publish a chart that links stations to jails, and it can move a person. For that reason, say "usually" and call.

Skip the station for payments. The station is a place for questions, not bail. Our guide to how much bail is in California explains how amounts are worked out, which helps when the jail gives you a number.

Can bail be posted right after booking?

If bail is set, yes. LAPD jails take bail 24 hours a day. Payment can be cash, a valid surety bond, a cashier's check to the Los Angeles Police Department's Bail Account from a California bank, or certain money orders. Our 1% down option on approved credit lets a family start with 1% of the bail amount down on approved credit.

Read how bail is set at the Valley Jail Section to see how the amount is decided, and what happens after bail is posted at the Valley Jail Section to see the steps after the bond arrives. Some lower level offenses end with a promise to appear and $0 bail, with no bond needed.

What happens at arraignment and after?

The court's schedule says arraignment typically occurs within 48 hours of arrest unless there is a holiday or a weekend. LAPD says the court depends on where the arrest happened and the charge, and a family should ask the jail.

If the person stays in custody, they are remanded to the Sheriff's Department. Men are usually processed at the Inmate Reception Center, which has no visiting. Women go to Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood. Bail can still be posted after the move, but you may need the LASD cashier, (213) 473-6049. Hours are not stated, so call.

What should a Devonshire Station family do now?

  1. Write down the time of the arrest and the time you learned of it.
  2. Call the jail and the county line, and get the booking number.
  3. Ask for the charge and the amount of bail.
  4. If you want a lower amount, call (213) 633-6350 within two hours of booking.
  5. Call a licensed agent. We are at (213) 725-2815.

You do not need to be at the jail for a bond to be posted. Only come if you plan to pick the person up. Bring photo ID, a charged phone and a ride home, and keep the written bond statement we give you. It lists the payments and the court dates, and you will want it for every hearing.

1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
