El Sereno Bail Bonds, Huntington Drive to Eastern Avenue

A phone call from El Sereno about an arrest is one no family wants. If you got one, call Jane Un Bail Bonds at (213) 725-2815. We are a licensed California bail agent, CDI License #1843448, and we pick up at any hour. Ask for a Spanish speaking agent if that is easier for you.

El Sereno is a hillside neighborhood on the far east edge of the city of Los Angeles. Huntington Drive and Eastern Avenue are the main streets, the campus of Cal State Los Angeles sits next door, and Alhambra, Monterey Park and South Pasadena are close. Many families have lived here for generations.

Let us walk through what happens next.

Hollenbeck is the station that matters

El Sereno is part of the LAPD Hollenbeck Area. The station is on East 1st Street in Boyle Heights, and the front desk number is 323-342-4100. See our Hollenbeck station page for details.

The usual route for an arrest from El Sereno is the Hollenbeck station first, then booking at the Metropolitan Detention Center on Los Angeles Street. Usually is the careful word. LAPD may move people, so call before you go. The MDC page lists hours and how to post bail.

Border streets and campus arrests

El Sereno sits on hills with long views, with a mix of older homes and apartment buildings. Many residents work in other parts of the city and commute on the 10 and the 710. That means an arrest might not happen at home at all. It might happen at a job site, on a freeway ramp, or in a parking lot far away. Where the arrest happened, not where the person lives, decides which station and jail get the paperwork.

Because El Sereno touches other cities, arrests near the line can involve city police from next door. If the person was arrested on a street shared with another city, they may be in a city jail and then moved to a county facility. Call 213-473-6100 or search app.lasd.org/iic to see where they ended up.

Cal State Los Angeles has its own campus police. An incident on campus may start with campus officers, who may then pass the person to LAPD or the Sheriff. If a student was arrested, tell us where and who made the arrest.

Getting downtown from Huntington Drive

The shortest drive is usually Huntington Drive to Mission Road or Eastern Avenue to the 10 west, or the 710 to the 10 and then downtown. The jail is on Los Angeles Street near the civic center. Parking nearby is tight, so a family member who is not driving may prefer a rideshare.

Women arrested in Los Angeles are typically held at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood after the county takes custody. If a qualifying pregnant woman is in custody, see the pregnancy program page for how our free bail program works, subject to approval. If she does not meet every point, ask us anyway. We are often able to help.

Bail can be posted at any hour. If you work nights or have kids at home, start our short online application from your phone.

The cost, simply

A bond fee is called the premium. It is 10% of the bail amount at the rate filed with the state, or 8% if a private attorney is retained or the defendant or co-signer is a veteran. With Bail Today, Pay Later, you can start with 1% down on approved credit and pay the rest monthly.

On a $12,000 bail, the premium at 10% is $1,200 and the 1% down payment is $120. That is a down payment, not the price. We write out the full cost before you sign anything.

The family part

In many El Sereno homes, three generations live under one roof. The co-signer may be a grown child, an aunt or a spouse. Whoever signs must show steady income, often with a pay stub. The co-signer promises that the defendant will come to every court date.

That promise is real. If the defendant misses court, the co-signer could owe the full bail amount. Do not feel pressure to sign in a rush. A good decision made at 4 AM is better than a quick one made at 2. Ask every question, including the awkward ones about what happens if something goes wrong. Talk it over as a family and read the co-signer guide together.

Court after the booking

A downtown booking is usually followed by arraignment at the Central Arraignment Courthouse on Bauchet Street. Felony cases then move to the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center. The first date is on the release papers. Take a photo of it.

Free court self help and legal aid are listed in our resources directory. A public defender can be appointed at arraignment if the defendant qualifies.

1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
