A call about someone you love being arrested in Carthay is a hard call to get. We are Jane Un Bail Bonds, a licensed California bail agent (CDI License #1843448), and we answer at (213) 725-2815 any hour of the day or night.
Carthay is a quiet pocket of homes between Wilshire Boulevard and Olympic Boulevard, with tree lined streets and a historic feel around the old Carthay Circle Theatre site. Most arrests here are handled by the LAPD Wilshire Area. This page explains where a person from Carthay usually goes, which courthouse hears the case, and how our payment plan can help you get them home.
Start with the name, the date of birth, and the charge if you know it. We will help you work out the rest.

Who arrests people in Carthay, and where do they go
Carthay sits in the LAPD Wilshire Area. The Wilshire station is on Venice Boulevard, a short drive south of the neighborhood, and its front desk number is 213-473-0476. You can read more on our LAPD Wilshire station page.
Carthay is a small neighborhood, and a call from a neighbor or a security camera often starts an arrest here, not a big event. A traffic stop on Olympic or San Vicente, a dispute in a parked car, or a late night call to a home are all common beginnings. Whatever the start, the path is the same.
The station is where officers start the paperwork. For most Wilshire arrests the person is then booked at the Metropolitan Detention Center downtown. We say usually because LAPD can move people between facilities for medical or space reasons. Always call to confirm before you drive anywhere. Wasting an hour at the wrong building at 3 AM is a rough way to spend a night, and a short phone call prevents it.
The Metropolitan Detention Center page lists the address, phone and visiting rules. The front desk of the station can tell you if someone is still there, but the inmate information line is faster once booking is done.
The drive to the jail from Carthay
From Carthay you can reach downtown by Wilshire Boulevard, Olympic Boulevard, or the 10 freeway. Late at night the 10 east moves quickly. During the day, give yourself extra time, because Olympic and Wilshire both fill up around the Miracle Mile.
The booking jail is on Los Angeles Street. Parking nearby fills fast, so consider a rideshare if you are tired. Bail can be posted around the clock, so you do not need to wait for morning.
If you would rather not go at all, we can often handle the paperwork with a family member by phone and online. Start at our online application, which takes about four minutes and does not ask for a Social Security number online.
Which court will hear the case
Someone booked downtown is usually arraigned at the Central Arraignment Courthouse on Bauchet Street. Felony cases then move to the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center on Temple Street. Misdemeanors can stay in a smaller courtroom depending on the charge.
The arraignment date is printed on the release paperwork. If you lose it, the court has a case search, and our agents can help you find it. Missing a date is the fastest way to turn a bad week into a worse one, so write it on your phone calendar the moment you have it. Ask us what happens when a date is missed, and we will tell you straight.
How 1% down works for a Carthay family
Premium is the fee for the bond. It is 10% of the bail amount, which is the rate filed with the state, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or the defendant or co-signer is a veteran. The 1% down plan means you can start with a down payment of 1% of the bail amount, on approved credit, through Bail Today, Pay Later. The balance is spread over a monthly plan.
Say bail is set at $25,000. The premium at the filed rate is $2,500. Under the plan, the down payment is $250 and the rest is paid monthly. Approval is required and a co-signer is normally part of it. We explain every number before you sign. Our bail calculator can show your own case, and we are glad to talk it through by phone.
What a co-signer takes on
Carthay has a lot of long time homeowners, renters in small apartment buildings, and students and workers who commute along Wilshire and La Cienega. That mix means the co-signer is not always the same kind of person. Sometimes it is a parent who owns the house. Sometimes it is a coworker who earns a steady paycheck. We care about steady income more than about who it is.
The co-signer is the person who vouches for the defendant. In Carthay that is often a parent, a spouse, or a roommate with steady work. A pay stub is the most common proof of income.
Signing means you agree to see that the defendant goes to every court date. If they miss one, the co-signer can owe the full bail amount. That is serious, and we say it plainly. Read it all before you decide, and ask us anything that seems unclear.
If the arrestee is pregnant
A qualifying pregnant woman, at least eight months along, with bail of $50,000 or less, a non-violent charge, and a working co-signer with proof of income, may get her premium waived. This is our free bail program for qualifying applicants, subject to approval. If she does not meet every point, ask anyway. We are often able to help. Details are on the pregnancy program page. Women are usually held at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood after the county takes custody.
1% down is a down payment on approved credit, not the price of the bond. The premium is the rate on file with the California Department of Insurance, 10% of the bail amount, or 8% when a private attorney is retained or you or the defendant is a veteran. The balance goes on a payment plan.
Questions people ask
What is the Wilshire station phone number?
The Wilshire Area front desk is 213-473-0476. Station staff can tell you if the person is still at the station or has been moved. Once booking is complete, call the LAPD inmate information line at 213-473-6100.
Can I bail someone out of the Carthay area at night?
Yes. Jails take bail around the clock, and we answer at (213) 725-2815 24 hours a day. Expect a short call about the name, the jail and the charge, then paperwork you can start online.
How do I find out the bail amount?
The amount is on the booking record. You can search the LASD inmate locator at app.lasd.org/iic or call 213-473-6100. If the person was just arrested, it may take some time before the record shows up.
Do I need a lawyer before I call a bail agent?
No, you can call us first. We do not give legal advice and we do not recommend lawyers. If you hire a private attorney, the premium can drop from 10% to 8%. Free help is listed on our resources page.
What if the charge is serious or the bail is high?
Higher bail needs more careful approval, and some charges may need a judge to set it. Call us with the details and we will tell you honestly what is possible. See our guide on how bail works in Los Angeles.
